Checked the figures on the US and EU economies?
GDP (according to http://www.pref.miyagi.jp/toukei/profile/05_indust ry.htm):
USA: 949,124 billion Yen, 26.6 % of world total
EU: 978,648 billion Yen, 27.4 % of world total
Quake's movement code, networking etc would take a long time to reproduce.
Licensing fees? What licensing fees? You can do everything they say with a simple mod, just like say ctf or rocket arena. No need to go licensing the engine or anything. There are plenty of level editors, and the game source (not including graphics networking etc) is freely availible to remove the weapons. You can do an imressive amount just with the public tools released by iD.

I supose old-style (Moscow-afiliated) Communist parties would come under that category.
And it was indeed Scary.
If 'True' AI (wahtever that might be) is developed, sometime in the (probably) distant future, could they (the AIs) become citizens of their country? There'd probably be a huge amount of opposition from the clueless masses. At what point could an AI reasonably qualify for the same rights as are given to other fully-seninent beings ie. us ?
Here in the UK, The Times is considered one of the most respectible broad-sheet newspapers, if slightly pro-conservative. Their sources are usually good.
That doesn't mean they have a clue about technology of course.
*This sounds too much like facism..* Not, This sounds like too much fascism. Completely different meaning. One means, This is too close to fascism. The other, This is more facism than we want.

Sorry!
The way it came up it looked like the post I replied to was in reply to the story. I then changed mode and I see that it wasn't. OOps.
My appologies.
You were quite right, the guy is fairly moronic.
I got the distinct impression that the 'old man' was a woman.
Read the story.
You'd have thought someone would have pointed out that an advantage of more female hackers == more hackers. Approaching 80 - 100% more, probably.
More coders, more minds, better software.

OK, so I can't spell
If it has an infinte range of settings, it's
analog, else digital.
Hence something can have many more states than On or Off and still be digital.
