MS stuff is supposed to "easier" so easy you don't have to hire one of those expensive "System Administrators" to manage your system.
I work at a major computer server OEM. In our Information Services department we have 3 Unix administrators and 10 NT administrators.
Windows NT is NOT easy to administer, and suprisingly enough, the usual fix for problems is to RE-INSTALL the OS and all 4 service packs then restore from backup. This takes about 12 hours and needs to be done at least once every month for all 50 NT servers we have.
The Unix machines have average uptimes of about 90 days. ( They upgrade the kernals a lot here. ) However the doen time is usually only a few minutes.
I still prefer 35mm film to the digital cameras. The original Starwars was great because of the way they had to render those ships.. (i.e. made from models and glued together ).
An all digital rendering of those special effects would be "So realistic" it would suck.
Apparently they are half the size of MP3's and sound better...
MP3'3 are a 12 to 1 compression sceme. It is very hard for me to believe that a 24 to 1 compression of a CD could sound better. It simply does not make much sense to me. When recording digitally I don't even like using anything less than 32 bit proccesing ( which of course gets reduced to make CD format ).
I see two problems with ASF files:
1) Microsoft owns it. That simply SUCKS if it is true that it is better.
2) Until I hear it with some acoustic music with a 3D stereo field and I actually think it sounds better, I can't believe it.
The only "good" thing is you may be able to stream this format, and in that way it may be better than Real Audio. But Better than MP3? I don't believe it.
Please note that it was a Republican in the article.
The problem they see, I bet, is if they can't the fscking economy ( i.e. the High Tech investing that is driving up the NASDAC and the DOW ) to slow down they will lose another election.
This is one of many news articles I keep running into more and more frequently. I personally have converted two people to Linux at work ( unnamed MS partner ) and I keep grinning ear to ear.
Now for the MP3 bit. There was an article about a band putting an MP3 up not sure what would happen etc. Well, my band has done it too. The MP3 is at:

Slashdot me please!
We are at like 938 or something...:-(
It don't work quite as well as the other band said it did.

I wonder what Kubrick would have said......

But I guess not.
I will look into that site though!
Less Government, Less Taxes ( bullshit ).

Well, screw them.
The Hale Bopp Comet left already.
I suppose that is what terrorism is. isn't it?
Of course if you don't have a huge tax supported army what else can you do?
And, for the very first time, I would be on their side!
I actually killed my own chickens on the farm when I was a kid. ( For food )
I don't think I could actually touch one of these.
So there....
Everyone knows that Microsoft invented the paper clip. It's right there on Outlook.
The article said there was 150,000 downloads of it in a week. If they folks had also bought the record it would be Gold already.
If any one missed it and want's it let me know and I will put it somewhere where you can download it for "Evaluation Only". *wink*
Not exactly...
They have the right to distribute songs of yours on their CD's, And if YOU choose:
1. Play them on the Radio
2. Make them availiable for individual download
3. Make CD's of yours to sell and the artist gets half.
However there is one really cool clause: The artist can terminate the agreement at any time for any reason with no penalty.
( Such as actually getting signed etc. )
"I want my... I want my.... I want my mp3."
I will miss him too. BUT I think Alfred Hitchcock was the greatest director of all time.
I believe that is what the article said about half way through. NT is C2 certified on a non-networked Standalone system. Duh..
Sure you can reboot a unix machine into runlevel 1 but what good is a secure standalone?
Idiots....
Is there any radio stations that play mp3's? I don't mean internet radio stations either....
I spent over six months recording our record. Nearly got a divorce, did lose a job. Free? Are you nuts?
The thing that makes mp3's great is that it cuts out the fscking middlemen.
I want pictures.....
Obviously, they just want true 64 bit Unix-like OS for merced asap. But what the hey?
I bet now Sequent, another intel based server hardware manufacturer, ( they use Dynix PTX and NT ) might not be too far behind.
World Domination!
Sorry, not for me. I would still prefer my JBL studio monitors.
QNX is a godlike OS..... ( to bad not open source though )
These machines just may RULE.

I can use it in the bathroom.
