> The so-called IBM PC is as prevelant as it is because of the reverse engineering of the original BIOSes
OK..for the umpteenth time...IBM publishes all the specs on its BIOS. They are however, copyrighted, trademarked and patented, so you just can't run out and start building your own. Only the RIAA could call reading the specs reverse engineering.
Don't forget the Fredonia Revoltof 1826 - their flag consisted of argent (white) stripe above a gules (red) stripe, a motif which was later incorporated into the Lone Star Flag.
On the argent stripe are the words Independence, Liberty, Justice.
When Compaq (later followed by others) loosened the Golden Ring from IBM's grasp by reverse engineering their proprietary bios, the Open Hardware PC platform revolution was ignited. Motherboards, memory,

I beta(maybe alpha??) tested this last year...didn't work as claimed...spent 5 minutes on the phone with a developer...explained the email standard at my company is Groupwise...never heard back from them again...maybe it only works with Microsoft products??
Beer is allowed to be sold everyday(but not before noon on Sundays!) in counties that have voted to allow alcohol sales. Hard liquor or automobiles may not be sold on any Sunday or State holiday.
Cities may then further restrict alcohol sales as they see fit within their limits ususally through the application of zoning laws.
I remember reading an interview with Tim Berners-Lee(I would post the URL but altavista can't seem to find it) where he was amazed that everyone wanted to be on the World Wide Web...he had thought that it would fragment into little specialized pieces where each interest group would have their own domain ( ie mathematics, chemistry, physics, etc) and search engines would be limited to the domain.
...If you are a U.S. citizen with a tax home in a foreign country and you meet the bona fide residence test or physical presence test, you may exclude up to $74,000 of foreign earned income for tax year 1999. The exclusion amount will increase by $2,000 a year until it reaches $80,000 in the year 2002...
I think you will run into problems trying to explain to the "big" boss can't run the "season's greeting" flash that his daughter sent or load Quicken to keep track of his stock options...
I remember.. he had the same name as the convicted Okla City bomber - Timothy McVeigh and had 19 years in with the US Navy. He reached an out of court settlement with AOL for $$$$$.
It is not that simple...although one would assume that you could have different versions running on the same box, if you do, tech support will not help you. They will require that you remove or upgrade the older version(or most likely, tell you to upgrade all instances to the latest patch level) for support.
Some times Oracle will get confused and see the other Oracle instance and some how read the wrong ORA.INI file...
I seem to remeber VB being purchased from someone who was horrified to discover when VB 1.0 shipped that they had changed to Basic from Pascal...and don't forget "Microsoft Bob"!

Doesn't anyone remember the token black Billy Dee Williams? It seems a lot of fans in the late 70's were questioning Speielbergs vision of the future where there were only white people with english accents.

I ran into one of the popular jock guys I went to high school with just last week. He was behind a bullet proof glass case at an Exxon I stopped at to get some gas. I laughed for 20 minutes...

Don't forget the 80486SX - it actually required an extra step in production to cripple an otherwise good 80486 - and it sold for less!
