the sequel is even better. Xenocide deals with a much better machine and the futuristic equivalent of the internet. yay for Orson Scott Card (at least i hope i got his name right.:)) !!,

actually those are damn expensive..something like $7-800
actually BSD is not better than linux in a lot of areas...it may/may not be faster or more streamlined..but its still unix at its core. unix flavours may have some advantages over others, but not one of them is singificantly "better" than the other. i work on Irix, Solaris, Linux, BSD, AIX and DEC OSF/1 on a daily basis (mainly cause im a sysadmin) and all of them have their strengths and weaknesses.
heck...when i was 16 i was using DRDOS. after a few years you'll grow out of the M$ crap and start learning something. Eventually you'll understand why we all like unix (linux, BSD, irix whatever..).
install the true type X server..its available somewhere. then simply copy the truetype fonts into../X11/fonts and put them as default fonts to be loaded. relatively trivial..i got it working in 20 mins.
err..,microkernels are SLOWER. thats a fact which is easily observed. increasing the data transfer between parts of any kernel will slow it down...and thats what a microkernel does. its like a 10 line assembly program is always faster than a 10 line BASIC/PASCAL/ program..the high level program may be more elegant but its not a quick and dirty assembly hack.
i've written multithreaded stuff on OS/9..its crude and primitive but it does give you real time performance out of the box. its kinda like CPM + UNIX combo...
staroffice does *NOT* convert word97 documents perfectly..things like macros/clipart placement and strange formatting cause staroffice to die. word 6 is about the only thing staroffice handles reasonably well.
thats a *stupid* statement. there *NO* WAY IN HELL i can view word documents on my linux box..i get documents in word97, word 6, the dos word (i cant remember what it was but its annoying as hell). the only software that opens em all is word97. even framemaker dies when trying to import word97 files. dont forget that there is *no* perfect macro/clipart/weird formatting support in any linux word viewer..only word97 can cope.
on sony japanese radios (the ones sold in japan -- not in the US) you can listen to the police, cordless phones etc. directly. they have a broader FM range than do the radios sold in the US (these are the normal AM/FM/SW band radios..not a special scanner radio)..

the correct thing would be :
1 xor 1 = 0
the alpha has compatibility with it. eventually ram will get faster. pci will get faster. thats all that counts.
i've got GPLised software on geocities -- can they now claim all rights to it ? This is a load of crap.
his column doesnt read like it was written by a bigot...record or not.

switched ethernet solves those problems imho by giving each node its own network. simple, yet effective.
the ieee has the entire VHDL CDROM online...bit offtopic but i learnt it from there..pretty simple language.
crash!!
its cost. theres no one out there to pay for the tests to be run. would you like to contribute ?
just wait till mindcraft benches MacOSX. NT will be 14 times faster than OSX.
i've written multithreaded stuff on OS/9..its crude and primitive but it does give you real time performance out of the box. its kinda like CPM + UNIX combo...
NT is faster than netware -- look at (who else?) mindcrafts benchmarks. NT is also faster than a cray SV1 BTW...
i started this..so i'll end it. i've had crashes with NT sunder the following SP's :
SP1, SP4, SP5.
i've not tried SP2/3.
but flashcard space isnt. and the IBM drive isnt a flash based product. just try jogging with the ibm microdrive and bad sectors can be guaranteed.
would be kewl if it came with a protable DVDRAM drive. 5GB+ storage and pretty fast (DVD drives are 5x the speed of the comparable CD drive)
how bout GNUsic ?
Zurk would be greatful if daveo would drop the DAMN CAPS in his email address. Zurk would be happy. Everyone would be happy.
