If you look back at Dr Chris Monico's work at cracking ECC-109 you can get some more background on the equivalences and how they match up and how the two are compared and how they are very different. 109 took a lot of computational time (biggest ever so far I believe), and this is vastly bigger, as if I remember correctly ECC encryption doesn't grow linearly, but exponentially. The code used to crack ECC-109 has been somewhat improved in ECC2-109 based mainly on things Dr Monico saw in 109 and based on some research he and I did regarding a paper by Teske of Waterloo.
Hope that is informative.
an idea like this on a grand scale is all great, but remember, you (the student) have to put in the work to get the education. i know a lot of my course material here, at Notre Dame, is available on the web (in fact, my entire EE text book is online - http://www.nd.edu/~lemmon/courses/ee224/) but there is a lot more than just reading that goes into the learning. There is a major lab component in this (50%). Also, the interaction between you and your fellow students make this what it is. I've learned more in the dining halls than in the class room, because interacting w/ these "smart" people force you to kick it up a notch. but i'm all in favor of this, just remember, reading and knowing are two completely different things.
go irish!
If the kid is so "smart," then he probably knew that making gun comments was wrong. By making it, he was doing something against school rules. Just because he was harrassed by other kids does NOT give him that right. How many times did he report these harrasing attempts at him. I know what it's like to be harrassed as much as the next guy, but you deal with it. If you can't then you report it, you don't do something you know will get you in trouble. The school did the right thing.
Actually, CVS is the largest presciption based drug-chain in the USA. I know, I work at eckerd and we're number 3. Those CVS-ians. Bastards. That's ok, not all CVS' have pharmacies, but all ECKERDS DO. LONG LIVE THE BLUE AND WHITE!
The length that Rasterman and Mandrake have taken this has been incredible. This still "beta"-ish window manager is the standard on many distributions even over those which have been established "standards" for years. . .
If they so choose the Supreme Court does NOT have to hear the case again. because they can (and often) refuse to hear cases. And with the supreme court there is a different matter of trial-thing. First both sides present their info in writing and very little "in-house" arguing goes down.
I wonder when people/corporations will realize that there are better ways of helping themselves out than by patenting or copyrighting things. In some cases they do not even invent the new things, but only help to bring them more to the forefront of peoples view in the net world. Just the negative vibes send out from slashdot readers today toward doubleclick can't be financially good for them, even though now, they can claim all mighty supremecy over all banner companies worldwide. sound a bit like a company who didn't invent, only led the OS race for a while.
(sorry, this rant got a little screwed up as my mind wandered and my interest wained)
Possibly they should consider the REAL St. Linus. He does exist, he has been mentioned during some masses I have attended. If memory serves I believe he was one of the first "deacons" or people who helped to spread the news of Jesus and what He stood for and what-not. I would link to www.catholic.org's page for St. Linus but i believe it is down. Maybe a google cached link somewhere will have it.
i think this sums up what we all feel right now. stuff like this is gonna 'cause some of us to flip out, 'cause UF was the only sane thing in our whole freakin' life.

You piss off the gov't.
They "make" a clone of you.
Bye Bye.
Perfect for those pesky crypto-anarchists and others.

Kha0s Linux is an attempt to create a VERY secure version of Linux. Currently it is in development. Look around. . .
