  1. Down Under on Laptops In Education · · Score: 2

Down here in Aus several schools give (forced sell) laptops to students, and if it's done well laptops help with things like research & writing reports (I think the last time I handwrote anything was in 1994 before I got my first laptop...). But even the public schools here are starting to give students laptops, and there has even been a case where a student has been suspended for NOT having a laptop.

And yes, for those of you who wearn't wondering this message is being posted via a school laptop.
333Mhz celeron 64Mb 6.4GB, great except for one thing, NO FSKING CD OR FLOPPY DRIVES, but that's no problem for me due to a strange thing called Linux, it runs on my old laptop, the one that does have drives, and it lets me acsess anything that I need, really advanced stuff, you people probably wouldn't get it.

I'd have to say that ANY machine connected to the web is insecure, look at the Orange Book specs, especially for things like NT...
I'm not aginst microsoft, only in the server department, but until I have seen it with my own eyes I will not belive that any machine connected to the Internet, or even any network is secure.

  3. canvas NOT available for all distros - NO SHIT on Canvas 7 beta for Linux - now available · · Score: 1

It doesn't need to be ported to PPC in their minds, because most people that run LinuxPPC or another varient still have MacOS on those machines, and those that don't probably don't have a need for canvas.

  7. iOpener on Linux Appliances · · Score: 1

I'ts a big shame that the iOpener doesn't run a linux distro, otherwise there wouldn't be as much of a desire to hack it. I live down under, and can't get an iOpener :-( , otherwise I'd have 10 running as terminals, and print servers.

  10. DeCSS Legal (At least the source) on DeCSS Source Included in Public Court Records · · Score: 1

The main point now is that if the documents are released, and as said if they aren't it would violate the GPL. But if they are released it would mean distributing the source for DeCSS would be the same as distributing a legal document released by the courts.

  12. Re:NetBus??? on Telnet into Dreamcast? · · Score: 1

Sounds reasnoble, i'd never trust microsoft's security in the first place! As for netbus, I only get my kicks out of crashing other 95/98/NT machines at work, just to piss people off. And as most people still don't have ethernet adapters for their Nino's (or other CE machines) i didn't know about NetBus CE.

  13. NetBus??? on Telnet into Dreamcast? · · Score: 1

Why would a CE macine ie. the dreamcast have ports open for netbus??? there are just enought mistakes to prove this is a hoax:

    1. How do you install the NetBus crack onto CE, let alone NetBuster?
    2. How do you port scan a machine that only has a serial port (how did you find a connector & the pinout) or a modem that only connects to the numbers in the dreamcast's database (game servers)
    3. A proper port scan actually tells you the machine's IP adress, & why are you so afraid of showing your dreamcast's IP if it's only a dreamcast not your PC.
