The Democratic challenger Schauer has pulled within the margin of error of most polls in the last few weeks. Gov. Snyder and the Republican legislature have run roughshod over Detroit and much of the state and along with a visit by President Obama, his opposition is motivated. It may come down to the weather on Tuesday.
Detroit sunk itself - the logical endpoint of Democratic policies as the city finally ran out of other people's money to spend.

Here in Michigan, Nader is working *with* Greens, encouraging *everybody* to get involved locally. Green Party candidates appear along with Ralph when he visits the state.
IMHO, you don't know what the hell you are talking about.
goog point! As a constituent of Rep Conyers, I'm having a hard time figuring out how this change in the law serves me and his other constituencies. That is, until I discover that a large part of the contributions to him come from the film industry. I think its time to pay my congressman a visit.
Actually, I'd like voters in this democracy to vote for their second choice... and their 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Using Instant Runoff Voting (IRV), voters rank the candidates as far as they'd like and the vote counters take everyones top choice until a single candidate has a majority. Solves the spoiler issue as well as making sure the winner has majority support.
ummmm.... the article states he owns shares of a mutual fund that has holdings in those companies. Not quite the same thing eh?
As to the ad's, which are not Nader ads but anti-Gore ads, what would you have him say?
While Ralph is not a member of the Green Party, he has stated that any federal funding he get's will go to the greens. I place much more trust is his statement than yours, you coward.
Ralph Nader, and the Green Party platform on which he is running, directly addresses the overpowering influence of transnational corporations that William Gibson foresaw and Mr. Katz alludes to in his missage. To lump him with Bore and Gush shows the shallowness of Mr. Katz understanding of the political scene.
As far as the whole privacy/Ford-is-big-brother theory, I doubt that is of any substance.
My take is that you're no more subject to abuse of your privacy using a Ford provided pc than by using your own pc. I'm sure you're 'general distrust' is not limited to Ford Motor Co.
One spin that has been put on it here at Ford is that this is effort is similar to Hank's $5 for a day's work, allowing his employees to also be his customers. Ford is reengineering itself to be a leading 'consumer company in automobiles and related services'. The internet is a big part of this and Ford is trying to bootstrap it's workforce onto the internet.
The buzz on the internal ford newsgroup ford.misc reflects the tone of the original post. The announcement mentions that the $5 internet connection will include 'incidental personal use.' How this type of use will be distinguished from business use is the source of concern. Also, what are the privacy implications of this tight relationship between your employer and your ISP?
I'm not sure what to make of your reply. While I admit my post lacks the depth of the usual slashdot entry and as my partner likes to say, "I get what I deserve", my point was that distinguishing between human and machine players is a problem independent of the development philosophy and will only get more difficult in the future.
BTW, I have a friend who likes to eat with a spork though his name is Fred.
It seems to me then that you agree with Carmack's point, that the design decisions made to increase performance in a low bandwidth environment, necessarily preclude a secure client.
What ESR is addressing is that both Quake and ecommerce clients exist in this same environment, and that when open source principles are applied from the get-go, a secure solution can be provided.
Sharing our wealth is mandatory. Forced employment is slavery.
That's not the only thing coming out of those plants.
I'm sure you're aware of the waste that's sitting in rusting barrels, here in Michigan, just yards from 20% of the worlds fresh water.
You're probably also aware of all the raw materials and their sources that go into building the plant and creating the fuel.
... reduce the retirement age and work week hours. Add Election Day in the fall and another federal holiday in the spring or winter.
Pay for it be removing the upper limit for social security collections and a carbon fee and dividend program.

yeah, right, and here comes our rescuer:
Rand Paul courts the black vote

Nate Silver is still calling it for the Republcans, though it's getting tighter. Here's hoping he's right and the polls are skewed.

I heard somewhere that after the collapse, the primary currency will be toilet paper. I'm stocking up.
This says more about how dirty fossil fuels are than about how safe nuclear is. There are other options.
you mean 53% of us told him to take a hike.
Oh, how far we have come from consensus.

IIRC, it was about getting lost in the abyss...

"Don't fear the media. Become the media"

We is we the people.
Who do *you* think he meant by we?

Get a clue, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. The Green Party is for deep democracy and decentralization.
Take a look at http://votenader.org or http://www.gp.org/platform_index.htm/a& gt;
As you say, if you got in quick you made a great buck. Those who bought for the long term play still have time to do so.
I sure everyone here believes in the long term viability of these companies.

Perhaps, in the highly constrained environment that is the Quake universe, there is no way to distinguish between a human and computer player.
I believe a Dr. Turing proposed a test to do just that.
