I like Postgres, and I like MongoDB too. Both have their strengths. Best tool for the job I say.
The great thing about MongoDB is you can install two or three servers in different datacenters, and have redundancy out of the box. It's really simple. And you can scale horizontally if you need to without any downtime.
The last time I looked at Postgres, to do the same, you had to use third party solutions, and the client side drivers didn't support it. Is it any better now?
At least it's not from a US company. There is another phone like this, and it's from a US based company. And I'm thinking... yeah right, NSA honey trap.
We need secure software. We cant trust hardware at all, unless it's for a single purpose, with a verifiable protocol. The Bitcoin community are coming up with some great solutions, which will help.
Unfortunately, this doesn't always work. Building the infrastructure costs money. Even if you could cover the cost of setting up a rival service with reduced profit margins, you run the risk of the rival service undercutting you. Of course, Google have shown it can be done, but they have a lot of cash to burn.
It's good value when you look at the diversity the BBC provides. Sure you cant agree with the BBC on everything, but a lot better overall. Look at the Olympics. In the US, they got highlights. The BBC showed just about everything, live, without any breaks, for no extra cost.
Personally, I'd like to see the BBC paid out of taxation, providing it cant be touched by MPs. Link the rate to GDP or something, so there is never any question over how much money they get each year.
No thank you. If it weren't for the BBC, The Sky At Night, would never have even existed. If there was no BBC, all we would have to look forward to is wall to wall reality TV.
I dont really like being forced into using JavaScript. If NaCl would become a standard across browsers, then we would have an explosion in new developer languages and tools to develop content. Why limit ourselves?
If they would only just adopt Native Client like Google has, then we wouldn't have this terrible Javascript lock in. Let me use whatever language I like.
.NET != Windows any more. Mono is a robust, fast, and well supported system for the running on backend UNIX based servers. For example take a look at what the online gaming industry are using it for like Second Life. Look at the popularity of C# on StackOverflow.
I dont agree on the.NET thing..NET is leaving J2EE for dust, and for good reason. And thats not including Mono, which is getting some serious commercial users now.
Get a wireless "Battery Free" mouse. I have one of these http://www.a4tech.com/ennew/products.asp?cid=142&scid=92 and it's great. Cheaper than the Logitech I replaced it with, that needed a new battery once a day.
I agree with this. That is what I am doing now. I turned down management rolls so that I could still code. I have two other people in my team. I dish out the new techie stuff to the younger guy, who learns fast. The important stuff I give to the more experienced guy. And pick and choose the things I want to do.
yep, do what makes you happy. I refused a higher status in the company I work for, cos i like coding, and don't feel comfortable sitting at board meetings, and playing office politics. Instead they offered me a team leaders role, where I still code, but can hand out the boring stuff, or new fangled stuff to the younger guys who have a bit more enthusiasm for such things. Less money, but less stress.

Ha ha... the Blackphone is a company with a US presence. How do we know this phone hasn't already been NSA 'approved'?

BBC4 not Radio 4. But that too.
I think it's OK for the BBC to have a few flagship shows for ratings sake. Keeps them on their toes. Such shows unite families too.
It's defiantly OK for them to spend money on programming that would otherwise not be commercially viable. I want quality & diversity.

What nonsense. BBC4?
The BBC is so cheap for what you get. It has to cater for all tastes, so your not going to like everything.
No thank you. If it weren't for the BBC, The Sky At Night, would never have even existed.

I run a big 24/7 mission critical GPS and Mobile network on Linux/Mono for a household name. It better not be dead!
Hardly dead. Its very much alive on Linux, Mac & Android.

You can switch it off if you want. Whats wrong with choice? Just how open is Firefox anyway?
If they would only just adopt Native Client like Google has, then we wouldn't have this terrible Javascript lock in. Let me use whatever language I like.
Why not? Plenty of C# developers around. Commercial support is available.

I can just see it now.... the first glimse inside one of china's ISPs... a single room, with a flashed WRT54G router in the middle of it.

+1 If you haven't seen it recently, then it's worth a look.
I agree with this. Easier to get a job with C# skills, and it's future is looking very strong, with mono, silverlight making ground.
