  1. Slackware is the REAL Linux :) on Caldera OpenLinux 2.2 review at Salon · · Score: 1

Hey, Slackware is my favorite dist!

Ok, I actually LIKE the command line prompt.
At home I have a quad boot of Windows95, NT, Redhat, and Slackware.
95 is for all those stupid apps that I need to use (for now!).
NT is specific for work related things that I do.
RedHat 5.2 (need to upgrade to 6.0) is for my school. Since I am doing a project for school and want to stay "compatible" with their system.

And I have Slackware for everything else.
    It's my prefered OS/Dist.

So those who don't like to hunt and peck. I suggest Slackware!!!!

Hey, it would make for safer muggings!

Also, I guess you could use a mirror to protect yourself. Just point it back at the user and zap them :)

  3. Re:Don't let the door hit you in the ass ... on Thompson Critical of Linux · · Score: 1

This is EXACTLY what I believe Earl was talking about. We need to stop the flame.
I'm a very opinionated person but I also respect others opinions! Always argue with facts and not insults. I disagree with Thompsons statements about Linux but I feel the rest of his article was very good. I haven't read all the comments (I wish I could, but don't have time), but I haven't seen anyone mention what he says at the end of his article (maybe nobody read past the Linux statement :). But he said that Microsoft will eventually fail due to a new paradigm. I believe that this new paradigm is called Open Source.

So please don't just pick on him because he states that Linux is "worse" then MS. Prove it, it's not hard, and show that he is wrong. But, please, don't fall to insults. We all make mistakes!

Some of us actually buy things for no other reason then to help support the Linux movement.

There has been serveral times I opted to buy instead of downloading (I even have a fast access machine), just because I want people to make money for their effort.

  6. Re:Points to note on Alternative to Graffiti Input? · · Score: 1

How about a combination of the two.
I like the constant movement of the stylus without lifting it. But I also like the Graffiti period and punctuations. The double tap to make a period is very effective, and I don't see why that could not be implemented in Quickwrite.

A single tap could move you to the punctuation and a second tap could either make a period or put you back to the letters. "Either" meaning that it may be an option to let the user decide what happens.

Can anyone else build on this to be open minded and not choose which is better, but combine the two to make the best of both?

  7. MS can't take any chances on ESR and the MindCraft Fiasco · · Score: 1

Someone needs to perform this test on a Dell PowerEdge 6300/400 server (anyone have one?:).

Even if NT can beat Linux fairly, MS could not take the chance of a close race. Since their server is much more expensive, they had to "prove" that there system is worth the cost.
I did notice that there was no bench mark on down time! I wonder how many times the system crashed before they got it working.

I take that back.. "I believe M$ has

never did invent anything. They are just
    good at marketing others ideas.

And I have been to their presentations.
    The ARE good marketers!
