Redundant Array of Inexpensive Mars Probes?

Actually you could give them raid like numbers depending on the redundancy. You could have mirrored missions where one takes over if the other fails. Striped missions where the work is split between them for better performance but if one fails you can limp along with the other until a replacement turns up.

I guess 2 weeks should be far enough apart. Knowing their luck, any closer and they would end up bumping into each other.

We do. I have been on a commercial submarine that was used for siteseeing purposes. A bit scary when they lock the hatch and you wonder if the pilot progressed from pleasure crusers. It was well worth it though. However, I don't think you would be doing much siteseeing at mach 1 so I guess you mean for travel. That I grant you is unlikely.

  12. How to fix this. on Microsoft's IE 5.5 Flouts Industry Standards · · Score: 1

The way to fix this is reasonably simple. If you find a website that has IE only features, first take a deep breath and calm down. Once you are calm, send a polite email to the site admins explaining why you are not able to use there site.

If enough ecommerce companies get enough polite emails from people who can't buy stuff from there site, they will probably change there sites. For other sites, it depends on how many page hits they want. That probably comes down to how much advertising revenue they hope to make or will miss by precluding some of the browsing public.

The register had an interesting piece about a comment from someone from microsoft who was asked why IE 5.5 wasn't in the Win 2K service pack.
