  1. Next claim by SCO? stop breathing or we sue! on SCO Announces Final Termination of IBM's Licence · · Score: 1

I believe to be a PUMP-N-DUMP scheme for SCO stocks just before all the SCO execs leave the country to retire. When SCO lose the current law suite and if they live long enough for another, then this will likely be SCO's next extortion scheme.

To all those in violation of SCO intellectual property by "breathing":

Unless you pay SCO One Billion Dollars for Licensing "breathing" you will be sued! We have proof that you are in violation of our intellectual property. This violation occurs in the sub-process "inhale". But, we will not show it to you specifics, instead we will just sue unless you stop "breathing" immediately this moment we will sue you!

Really we will, unless you already paid us. If you have paid then go right ahead and "breath" we give you permission to go right ahead and proceed breathing until the next time we decide to sue you for "exhaling".

    Have a nice day.

  3. A linux user for over 9 years. on Worst Linux Annoyances? · · Score: 2, Interesting

IMHO the annoyances for me are:

    1. Lack of hardware support is the biggest annoyance. Specifically from the following for me:
    - Canon (I had a Canon usb flatbed scanner which I had to give away due to lack of drivers).
    - Lexmark (Lexmark's so called Linux support sucked! If you have a custom built Linux system. Everyone is not using Redhat with lprng. Now I have a large paperweight by Lexmark. There are really no good printer drivers for most inkjet printers under Linux. I am going for a HP laser printer next when I get the money).
    - ATI (I no longer buy or consider buying ATI video cards after my Rage 128 Fury card a while back was not supported under Linux for over 8 months. I went and got a NVIDIA card TNT2 card at that time and never looked at another ATI card. Currently my Gforce4 is awesome while I play unreal).

    2. I had a lot of grief setting of many of the USB devices under Linux. For example, why do I have to remove and install the kernel module usb-storage in-order for it to determine that I have a CF card in my CF card reader?

    3. Why can I not burn CD's using CDrecord DAO mode with my IDE cd burner with speeds past 8x without creating a coaster? Is it due to the ide-scsi emulation which you must use? Maybe this is a problem just affecting me. I have not looked into this one a lot.

    4. I wish to see more commercial software for Linux like games. (Yes, I am willing to pay for GOOD software! Even if I get some great software for free.)

I am trying hard but this is really all that I can come up with for Linux annoyances. This is hardly enough reasons for me to quit using Linux now. Don't get me started about my annoyances about M$ Windows. :) I could write a book or two about that.

  4. Every dog has it's 15 mintues of fame. on .Net:... 3 Years Later · · Score: 2, Insightful

For everyone that thinks .Net is the best thing since sliced bread, here is a reality check: .Net IS NOT Gods gift to programming! (unless, you consider Microsoft to be God?)

How can anything that requires MS Windows on both client and server possibly hope to replace Java ever?? I am not saying that Java is perfect, there is no such thing.

Can you really make a .Net application to work on anything other than Windows?? And No, the whole world is not using Windows and IE nor do they want to.

Yeah, I know about Mono but it's not ready and will not never be given any real support by Microsoft to become usable every time they change .Net, Mono will have to try and play catch-up. Have Microsoft ever made a truly platform independent software? It is not in their interest. It is in our interest to NOT support such things. If Micro$oft is involved in something sooner or later they will try to own and set the standards for it (Example: HTML/DHTML W3C or Micro$oft?).

I would not want to work/develop on any system where Micro$oft dictates all the standards. I'd rather stop using a computer and resort back to using an abacus for computing and carrier pigeons for networking. If I am not alone then .Net days are numbered and Java or something better is surly going to replace it. In the meantime if you are out of a job pick up a .Net manual and do some light reading and try to make some money off it.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with giving credit where credit is due. The time and effort is better spent on trying to educate the Linux users that the Linux systems are based mainly on GNU software.

If there is one then the kernel is still the main part of an OS and in this case it is Linux.

I accept that the GNU developers deserve much credit for development of Linux Systems. However, I do not understand how changing the simple name "Linux" to "GNU/Linux" could help. Like other OS'es Linux deserve a simple name and Linux is already established and it may be more damaging than helpful to try and change it.
