No one person on the network is allowed to take up too much bandwidth. I could just picture some teen downloading 20 songs simultainiously off of Napster, while 10 other people are trying to share the bandwidth and getting dial up speeds. They should set up a QOS system, where each person gets a minimum amount of bandwidth, but is still allowed to burst to whatever they might need.
Download MSN Explorer. She is the voice that greets you when you log on. Good morning, good afternoon...etc. I know it's not something most of the people on this board would ever download, but if you want to hear her voice that badly, it IS free!
Is the cache. Especially for readers of Slashdot, because it allows them to see a site after it has been Slashdotted. From my quick glance at the other sites, none of them had that technology. That is why I will continue to use Google!
You could have your coffee pot programmed to start by itself every morning, and then have it send a signal to your alarm clock when it's ready! Now that would be some useful technology!
I agree, a goal free universe would rock. But the thing is, people are so used to violence in games that it would take a MAJOR company releasing a MAJOR kick ass game to even get people to take a second look at it. IMHO.
I can really appreciate this kind of information. I really think that Slashdot should keep up on astronomy news, as many astronomers are also nerds. Keep up the good work!
...no. The Ricochet modems were proprietary, and there is no peer to peer mode as some people are talking about. They are basically useless, unless someone purchases the network from Ricochet. I know someone that used to work there, so I have a lot of information about how this network works. I asked him before posting this to confirm, and he said that there is no peer to peer mode on the wireless modem. ONCE AGAIN - THE MODEM IS TRASH UNLESS SOMEONE PURCHASES THE NETWORK. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Microsoft: Well Bob, this satellite is looking pretty good. All this software seems to be legit Bob: Great! Let's get back to the space ship and go home now! Microsoft: Wait wait, not so fast. I seem to have missed something. This looks like... THE WINDOWS 3.1 VERSION OF MINESWEEPER! You know you can't use any Microsoft product on an operating system for which it wasn't intended! Bob: But it's only Minesweeper man! Microsoft: Sure, NOW it's only Minesweeper. What's next Bob? Solitaire? Word pad? I have to stop this operation right now! Bob: Come on man, I'll give you whatever you want! Just don't take my satellite out of orbit! Microsoft: Sorry Bob, no can do. Bribes are specifically against the AUP you agreed to by installing Windows 2005 Satellie Edition on your computer. [Start] -> [Shut down] -> (Checks the "Deorbit" box). (The satellite falls from the sky)
