  4. Freedom=Hacks on SourceForge Server Compromised · · Score: 1

Well, the SourgeForge hack was probably a result of the amount of freedom SourceForge gives its users. I don't know of any free web host which gives its users a shell account, probably partially because it's too much of a security risk (well, that is except for me, but I only give webspace to trusted friends). With the amount of freedom SourceForge gave its users, this was bound to happen. This is not a suggestion that SourceForge reverse its policies. Instead, I believe that this is a testament to the honesty of open source developers (and the work of SourceForge) that this doesn't happen too often.

Will wireless be available for this? I'm getting a Palm VIIx soon and I am intrigued by the SSH terminal application available for it. I think it would be very...weird...to administer my server from anywhere, without wires, on something that fits in my pocket. Now, although I can do this on the palm, it would be a lot more fun to do it on Linux, considering I have a Linux server. And, BTW, there's NO WAY I'm going to be administering it with Telnet!

Again, it depends on what subject. Many 13 year olds (probably this one who committed suicide) probably know more about how to hack into a server than 26 year olds. I know more about server administration than my father or mother. On some matters, that's different. This mostly applies to general knowledge. They made you download the 15MB file if you already had 10.0.2 installed and wanted to download a single update to install on all computers on your network. I think that this was kind of outrageous. They could at least provide two updates, an update for 10.0.2 and an update for 10.0.1 (the one they have up there already requires 10.0.1, not 10.0).

I don't care that much about the endless stream of updates. The reason the third update was released was because of a major bug preventing the display of files in folders with many files in them. I would be angrier if this wasn't corrected that that the correction came only a week after the update. I like the updates, but I think that Apple shouldn't have made people download a 15MB file for 10.0.3.

For college students, most $600 software products are more affordable than for regular people looking to use them. Academic prices helps students/faculty a lot in buying cheap software, even if it's for personal use rather than for use with a class. I can testify that I could not have afforded my copy of Photoshop unless I used the education discount, bringing it down to $200. Although this may not be low, it is a lot cheaper than the $500-$600 retail version.
