When one says soda, he thinks Coca-Cola. When one says Fast Food, he thinks McDonalds.

To be more than just an underground Distro, you've got to make money, have a company, like RedHat. They posted a Profit! Sure, I'm sure they'll do some layoffs, but they're doing pretty well.

i've heard some call them the MS of Linux, they might be similar in some ways. But until Microsoft LinuXP comes out in a year or two, RedHat will be on top of the market.

Don't believe me about Microsoft preparing it's own Linux? Why would it be 'porting' .NET to it? XP wouldn't be so horrible if all the great Win2000 programmers were working on LinuXP, and all the crapass VB and Windows 98 coders were making crapass Windows Millenium and Windows XP.

    Zoot!

Does TurboLinux still have that crap text based installer? That's what buried that thing, along with poor advertising.

Suse? Green stinks, and it's too European, too German.

IBM needs to make eLinux or something....they could take this thing, but they're scared it'll ruin their AS/400 and OS/390 business. They could bury MS for once and for all!

Mandrake is nice, but it's really just RH with some glitter.

  16. Java is stupid on Java as a CS Introductory Language? · · Score: 1

Some idiot in 'information week' or some crap I get for free did an article on this today. Java is a load of junk. I believe they should just teach plain C, then go lower, dependent on the courses they are taking. Assembly and such if they are doing more engineering related items, Java/VB if they are taking a more generalized approach. A friend of mine took a C++ at the local university (not a big ten school or anything, hell it might be a 'communinity college'). He complained about how easy the class was and how nobody but him and one other student wasn't having the toughest time in it. Real reall simple stuff, I laughed at his book. This is the same kid who can't get a single thing to work, even though he's got every book in the world (or atleast that I own). I literally have to go over there and cross the i's dot the t's. Thats why all the guys I've seen, locally, that have come out with CS degree are complete morons, esp on the programming side.

  18. Dead Pixels on LCD Display Questions - Longevity and Monochrome? · · Score: 1

I plopped down $1500 for Toshiba laptop almost 2 years ago, and got the 12.1 TFT screen. I had a dead pixel on the screen, and Toshiba told me their policy on dead pixels. You could have up to 12 or 14, depending on where they were. You'd have to meet some conditions, like 3 or more being adjacent, or a big list of crap. My Dell with a 14.1 TFT didn't come with any, I actually expected a few. The VAIO is in the mail, so I'm betting on it having at least one. This dead pixel policy SUCKS. What if your CRT glass had a big BLACK, WHITE, RED, GREEN, or BLUE spot on it?!
