OSX itself can be sluggish. However, application performance is generally no slower than it is under OS9 (unless it's a poor port. The point is a good one will not be slower just because it's running under OSX). Also improving the situation will be the 10.2 update.
I would say this definitely smokes a duron (I'd say it smokes a duron 200MHz faster). The key here is get lots of RAM! OSX *is* extremely ram intensive, and the more ram you have the better.
I'm not sure I see why your difficulties understanding some of these things matter at all. Saruman turned evil because he was offered a good deal? That's the thing about LoTR: the side characters aren't really important. That's why Legolas, Elrond, Gimli and a few others are cookie cutter stereotypes.
The characters we should be concerned with are developed. Gandalf, Frodo, Boromir and the rest get a lot of attention in the movie.
Oh, and this is fantasy! Evil does evil just because of course! You can get through both the movie and the books with this understanding although it's kind of fun to read the silmarillion and find out the original reason as well (Sauron's master, who's name i can't remember, thinks he's a lot smarter than everyone else basically).
Official requirements have been announced. They are: 128MB of ram (real or virtual) Any G3 processor or better. You *can* turn off features, so it will run without all the graphical goodies on lesser machines. It'll just run, well, lesser.
It's not really like Masters of Orion. It's an action game where you control your own space vessel in a top down view. You can take missions around the galaxy, trade with planets, build an armada, take over governments, etc...
There are huge storylines that involve lots of rage against the machine and fight the tyrant goodness, as well as assist the tyrant and join the federation kinda stuff.
Unfortunately, Ambrosia doesn't generally port. Asking won't help, they just don't have the desire. However, I understand that emulators for powerpc will finally be available at macworld tokyo, so there might be some chance of emulating this. And then you'll be happy for the low system requirements (only needs a G3, 233 MHz prolly enough).
Consider this a second for the other reply to this post. The alien and sedition acts had similar aims. Anyone who claims to be a patriotic American needs to stop accepting this terror induced bullshit.
Censoring the press *is* terrorism in a country built on the basic principle of freedom of speech.
It cost you a competitive market.
For that matter, when you pay for a copy of windows, you are paying for IE as well. Or wait, I got it, ask Microsoft for a copy of windows *without* IE. Now, if you download it and install it, I'll be willing to consider it free.
Nor could I find news of a mac port *sigh*. Oh well, I can wait. Love the books, loved the early games. Movie made me retch (except for sting, who was cool). Beautiful screen shots.
If anything happens to the mp3.com artists currently using mp3.com to sell their cds, I'm going to be very pissed off. All the suits against mp3.com have been complete bullshit, and it's really dick that the record companies feel they need to submerge this one not because of copyright violation but probably because they don't like all the new artists coming into the market and selling their cds for $10.
Pretty good answers for an MS guy. Pretty straight forward answers about where MS stands in relation to Linux in particular.
The only one that really rubbed me the wrong way was his dodge of #9, going off into a couple of instances (XML) where Microsoft does support standards rather than talk about what we obviously wanted him to (Java). Oh well.
I just wanted to say that even though like 60/.ers posted the "this proves macs suck" joke, I thought each and every one was funny. I'm laughing so hard I'm crying! Or maybe I'm just crying cause I just read 60 really worthless posts.

Oh, and I forgot:
best shareware game... *EVER*
And prolly superior to 80% of commercial games on the market. I still want my money back for diablo 2.

I can understand the top 3... but how in the world did the star faction review get so high anyway?
For the first time since they saw HAL get disconnected in 2001 for the first time, geeks everywhere are crying.

Er... so how does one participate? The info on the website is all from last year's tournament, it doesn't even mention the one starting tonight :P
How might silicon on insulator affect performance cycle for cycle (ie, will it push performance above what a G4 gets per Mhz?)

Bite me Vivendi. Screw you Sony.
Does "enterprise" apply to schools who use Windows? Private schools who use windows? What all does enterprise encompass?

Pretty cool hack, particularly so for the wheels.
