Excellent points, all well made. But, I would have to add that for me, as a web developer at least, there are at least two good reasons to use Linux over FreeBSD- IBM and Beowolf. Huh? IBM?

M$ bought an interest out a small company (Grand Canyon) responsible for coding some of Apple's Quicktime software, and the code magically worked its way into Video For Windows, violating just about every aspect of the NDA terms of the contract.
