If we applied to what normal people do online (and then blame), what would you say if somebody cashed those "Loan Checks" sent in the mail? Most people know its a acceptance of a loan. Yet, common sense is thrown out the window on the net.
if the loan check looked familiar (like the GUI of most installers, with OK buttons and other "regular" UI objects that are called from the user's OS) then even MORE people would be tricked.
so with this analogy, the "loan check" might look more like a check from your job or a family member, and in my opion is the same kind of deceptive trick, regardless of the fine print.
EULA's and fine print both take for granted that no one takes the time to read them and determine what they mean in layman's terms.
it's true. the labels do rely on things they invent (so-called star power, formula bands, etc) and have to graft that to plastic and shrink wrap it in order to sell something physical and call themselves an industry.
this introduced a legal nightmare that LOTS of consumer sheep bought into and made the big 5 rich. no wonder the music on plastic from the big 5 SUCKS! the mp3 era has finally given the rest of us the clue. music should be free - musicians need to get by PLAYING their music.
building an audience in music is like getting a fire going. once the right balance between fuel, flame and conditions are struck, then it will burn for awhile.
i don't think the band in question is expecting to be plastered all over tower records and played every second on MTV. they're looking to build a fanbase that will support their lives of making music.
how long are you content with the computer you have???? be content. pshaw...
if you think WorldCom is tanking because of free services, then been sniffing fumes from an apple cube for way too long.
when you count expenses as profit (as WorldCom did) then you have much bigger problems than figuring out "a way to profit later." you have to figure out how to keep investors and the SEC at bay.
when deals are worked properly and revenue streams are investigated, there are always ways to make money. there are still web services for free, even in this economic slump.
seems to me that apple just likes to $crew people right now because dell is is having their way with the PC sales market.

this might be great for you and your next iBook, but i couldn't really give a shit. i'd really like support for what i paid for. an upgrade or two along the way wouldn't be bad either.
and for the argument that apple is being "vengeful" - don't forget the PowerComputing era and TWICE pulling hardware licenses. Jobs kills companies that support "his" platform. a true idiot.
"expecially if your windows machine is getting old and you need a new computer anyway."
if this were the case (i can upgrade my RAM, motherboard, and processor without running to coroprate daddy) i'd be "expecially" sure to stay away from a mac.
hmmm. when people review pretty computers with phrases like "it just works," "it thinks like i do," and my favorite "my mac is FRIENDLIER than my pc," it makes it pretty obvious who the idiots are.
why do you think toys are made to be pretty in the same way macs are? because kids are young and naive and are learning, much like mac users.
thanks, couldn't have said it better myself. as for your productivity - great, but how long are you going to be productive with old RAM, slow HD busses, and consumer level video chipsets?
i AM whining - my multitrack software support is gone and i am not expecting a refund from emagic.
no - it's true: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebOb jects/A ppleStore.woa/211/wo/h8Iu50snWMCZdl2Jsk/1.3.0.3.30 . 1.1.1.19.3.1.1.0?54,9
that's 133 mhz RAM!!! that's an ATA/66 hard drive!!! that's a GeForce MX not a GTS!!!
i could go on, but if you enjoy paying up to 70% more for two-year old hardware, then fine. stop acting so persecuted. you wasted money. pure and simple. stop whining.
emagic made a desicion that is not a suprise - all versions of logic sprang from macs, and it is their poor business descision to cut off more than a third of their revenue stream (including me).
and save us the tech company sues/gets sued crap, just this ONCE!

i wonder if they told the obligitory first post joke?
Sure, but if you give me $25, I'll tell you HOW miniscule the coverage is.
yeah but he plays a MEAN hand of solitaire.

I've heard enough 50 cent for a lifetime - I don't want him on every song!
hmmm... .mac or beer, .mac or beer?
:)
beer has no downtime! and they don't care if i switch back!
that's using the noggin.
thanks i haven't laughed like that for awhile...

while one ramps up a price, the other adds services with no price change.
