Regardless of what should be acceptable in public schools, anyone who didn't just fall off the turnip truck knows that a student fantasizing (in a paper, out load, etc.) about revenge and/or violence is going to suffer serious consequences in a public school system. The young man involved here likely had no intention of carrying out these fantasies, but imagine the school system's position. What if, however unlikely, the young man did commit acts of violence--can you imagine the outrage that would insue after finding out that he fantasized about this retaliation?
In an ideal world the young man would be able to express himself creatively without any kind of backlash such as this, but one needs to understand the pragmatic reality of the real world. It's probably a good thing the kid is being home schooled--anyone who is so utterly stupid to make a retaliatory threat in a public school, given recent events, likely needs that "little bit of extra help."
Translation: the kid's either lived in a bubble for the past five years or he's a friggin' motard!
Even MAC addresses can be spoofed. Take a look at the Cable/DSL routers that spoof their MAC addresses to match that of the Ethernet card the cable modem's supposedly connected to.
I know a lot of people are calling this thing an April Fools joke, but I'm skeptical. The usefulness of lzip seems dubious, but do they actually make any claims that aren't true? Not that I've found.
Of course not, and that's one of the biggest problems with handheld web browsing. For years webmasters have based their sites on the fact that any web-browsing platform will have at least 600 pixels of horizontal real estate. The site you listed has two 200 pixel images next to a 200 pixel navigation bar. Since horizontal scrolling is a horrible pain, something has to give. Folks need to realize that handhelds can be blazing fast with stunning displays, but with a playing-card sized screen you just can't expect to browse slashdot or pretty much any other traditionally designed website.
If you could increase the efficiency of a handheld's input by about a hundredfold, then maybe you'd be on to something with a CLI. Until then we're stuck primarily with pen taps--not particularly effective in your average shell.
Those are some tough words coming from an AC. My original UID is actually 88,XXX (I don't remember exactly) but the login was my actual name (like Joe_Blow). My new "Spooge Demon" login allows me to express myself more freely than I have been able to with my previous, less anonymous login.
That's a good point. For years Comedy Central has used the "Indecision XXXX" title for their election coverage, but after the first week or so of the election controversy MSNBC actually referred to the election (in all seriousness) as "Indecision 2000" as well. Comedy Central should've copyrighted!
During the heyday of the USSR NASA actually had two backups for everything it made: the actual backup plus the cardboard mockup with hammer and sickle that Russia made for the evening news.
Doesn't that seem really unnecessary to you? I don't know about others, but I always make a habit of using the word "spheres" in place of "balls" whenever possible. It prevents quite a bit of snickering and misunderstandings.
