These were probebly the companys that decided to pool there resources and if it works Red Hat Joins Later.
I think this is a great move on the part of the distributors , and not haveing red had initaly is an excelent manover. There are two salient points that make this significant over Red Hat.
1) A company is not tied to one vend. for distributions. Since theoreticly any one of the UnitedLinux companies can operate on each opthers platform , copes of Suse Can be bought in S america , Tubolinux in Japan ect. and have one support group and software package.
The opther big part (I think anyway) is DEVELOPERS only need to write once and that's it. The Buissness complaint is support and apps , the same support group for all , same apps for all make it an attractive offer.
Last , remember a similer bussness model works for GMAC/Christler/chevy/Ford . They are all the same company with different divisions.

While I could agree with your assessment of Tolken , there is a comparison. Tolken in his day would be compared to Shaherizad , Homer , or Shakespear. All of these people did not "write" the works atributed to them , but shaped the works in a way meningfull to the audiance , and eventualy to the world in general. The homeric Epic explains what it means to be greek using metaphor of the travel from troy to home. the 1001 nights does it in refrence to domestic life, Shakespear could do it on the stage. G. Lucas did it for the movies. The essential need for that type of telling neer changes , it evelves wit the Genra of story tellign at the time. I would recomend you take a good hard look at the work of Joseph Cambell. By using the metaphor of middle earth instead of the distruction caused by industrialisation in brittan, He gives a timeless element to his work.

I recently needed a gateway for a network and went to an alternate to Windows since it was on my dime.
Having tried Red Hat and FreeBSD , I personly much prefer the FreeBSD.
many of youon/. would not need nor use the documentation , and in fact would laugh at someone who does. I am not one of those people. The Red Hat was simpering , yet confusing at the same time. Technical information was given on the background and proccesses involved , without acctualy giving clear directions on how to get someinthg operational.
FreeBSD was clean , concise and technical, wihout needing to have extras thrown in to make the book bigger. I would not venture to say that one buld is better than the other , because I know I don't know enough to back it up. I will say that on my way t learning enough to tell the difference I'll be using FreeBSD for the best reason of all, It works for me.
This is true, HOWEVER it odes not have the implication that a nuclear orthemonulcear device would. Antimatter bombs have never been tested , have never been droped on anyone.
Pure and simple. Everyone made a stink about Metallica , butthis is hiserics at it's worst. The RIAA is showing there ass again and It is up to us to show them the truth: we the consumer make the indusry , not the other way around. Boycott the RIAA !
of all the moons of jupiter only titan and (now) Europa have the capability to support any semalaence of life . What if we find life on titan? That would be huge! Even without that , it makes a colony that much easyer.
Being able to hise data as spam? who would guess that this would be communication ? (see earlyer thred on Carnivore) They get as much as we give them.....
