Your job sounds kinda interesting. Many small one or two day projects for a variety of needs, working with very smart people. Could you say who you work for, or give some more details if you can't say the name?
Not much has changed. I found a license that says I should pay for it, but I lost the rep who said he'd charge me a random number of thousands of dollars but I'd have to find it first.
Oracle swallowed up a company that acquired a company that bought a company that had a technology I needed to use. I called Oracle and tried to find someone, anyone, who knew anything about how I could purchase it. Nobody had ever heard of either the product or the company. Finally after hours of searching I found the entire thing available fully functional for download deep inside Oracle's labyrinth of twisty little web pages, all alike. The text had disclaimers that you had to purchase a license to use the software. I called back and tried to find someone, anyone, who would let me pay for the software. No luck. I'm testing it now, but I don't know if I can use it in production. Neither does anyone else.
Yes, because the real skill in school and in life is to learn the unwritten rules that you will be judged by and use them. I had a cranky boss who loved to sit and chat about Star Trek. Guess what? I sat and chatted about Star Trek with him every once in a while and I had no problems with him while he made everyone else miserable. Fair? No. Doing well is easy if you are paying attention.
I taught some classes for the Computer Science department at a local university. Initially I was worried that it would be a difficult process to decide who passes and who fails at the lower end of the class. But as it turned out there was never any difficulty. Most students came to class, tried their best, and got A's, B's, and some that had difficulty with the subject got C's. The others rarely showed up, never handed in any projects, and basically signed their names on tests. There weren't any in the middle.
> shit that was more likely than not the product of abuse
I hate to blur your black and white understanding of this, but what about a 17 year old girl who takes a picture of herself nude and sends it to her 17 year old boyfriend, who thinks it's a good idea to post it on 4chan after they break up?
No, this extremely expensive laser system can be defeated by shiny surfaces or by smoke, or even fog for that matter. But don't worry - these are being deployed out at sea where there is never any fog...
My street has a make believe name in Google Maps and on my Tom-Tom. The next street over has my street's actual name. The real name of the next street over doesn't appear anywhere.
I've submitted corrections to Google and to Tom-Tom several times over the last couple of years to no avail. I used to be Pizza guys and Fedex knew the area. Now they all rely on GPS and I get 'couldn't be delivered' notes in my mailbox. Which is on my street. The one no-one else can find.
You didn't actually shoot coffee through your nose. (or you are an idiot) Nobody ever spits their soda on their keyboard, or laughs so hard at a minimally clever post that they spew their soup onto their monitor.
This phrase makes me rage so much, I popped a blood vessel all over my keyboard.
I was about to post how I can't imaging anything so gross or horrible I haven't already seen on the Internet and how it wouldn't bother me. Thanks for fixing that.
He didn't say conservative or libertarian. He said right-wing Republican. The nut jobs currently running (ruining?) the Republican party don't have much in common with conservatives from, say the Barry Goldwater era.
The current Republican party is purchasing votes from an extremist religion while demonizing a different extremist religion. All very similar to the current Democratic party who is purchasing votes from the poor, disenfranchised minorities and immigrants.
No matter which party wins, guess who ends up paying the bill for these purchases?
We live in one of the top 10 school districts in the country. We moved here for the school district. So now we are homeschooling. The local district is the best, but it still isn't good enough. It's the "best" because they spend the entire 12 years teaching to tests.
My kids spend 2-3 hours daily on schoolwork now, and are 2 years ahead of the public school. The rest of the time they play with their (other homeschooled) friends, put on plays, build things, make music (violin), and just be kids. If you can afford one parent staying home and you are naturally inclined to "be a teacher" I highly recommend it.

I was going to scold you for not defining an obscure acronym... but... well you know...
No, that was me: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1592372&cid=31585184

Solaris isn't what I was talking about, but yes, as it happens I run several file servers on Solaris. Best. System. Ever.
Right. Like he said, pics or it didn't happen.

My dad used to try that fucking psychology on me. I wish he had just hit me and gotten it over with.

They are not getting rid of 'F's they are getting rid of 'D's.
You have earned a 'D' for reading comprehension; And I think you know what 'D' means now...
Yeah, and I'm rather sure that people who steal bread are completely unrelated to having hunger. They just like to do illegal things.

The guy is a jerk, but there was no child abuse.

I'm so tired of this meme/phrase.

Don't feel too bad for those bad eggs who incite violence at peaceful protests. They are cops. Google for Agent Provocateur Montebello.
No, actually I was thinking 'The struggling middle class' (all colors).
But enjoy your rage anyway.
> Awkward.
That depends on if you are a girl or a boy.
Hello, I am Rajiv from LivePerson. I will be helping you today.
I see you have posted an anti-Slashdot message and I have taken the liberty of downmodding all of your other posts.
Thank you.
I'm on board.
Next presidential election I am writing in "the undead corpse of Andrew Jackson."

You make up these questions, Glonoinha, or do they write 'em down for you?
