    I'm a tabs person.

Back in my C days, I used tabs set to three. Now I use four. In the legacy code I occaissionally pull up where some idiot went through and converted my tabs to (3) spaces, it's a mess.

Sorry for the barely-relevant link. Google let me down (thought at least it didn't send me goat-hunting).

  8. Too much education on Advanced Degrees for Software Developers? · · Score: 3

Way way back in the early 1980s my family took a vacation on the Shetland Islands, north of Scotland. One day my father got talking to an old crofter. After a while the crofter turned to me and asked how old I was and what my trade was. I told him I was 13 and that I was still in school. He said "What do you you want to be in school for, at your age?".

I have a masters degree (Mathematics). For as much as it was a fun way to spend the time, it has had no bearing on my career whatsoever. In fact, apart from getting me in the door at a few short-sighted companies, my undergraduate degree was pretty worthless, too.

My advice: go get a job. What do you want to be in school for, at your age?

Fortunately for the MPAA, they put all of Europe in DVD region 2. The only good part of this directive is the elimination of country-by-country distribution rights.

There is no scientific gospel. Maybe there is, in a third-century "let's chuck out all the bits we don't agree with" way, but not in the sense the author implies.

The Big Bang theory has survived because it is better at explaining the observed universe than any other theory. It is very challengable, particularly if you have a better explanation of galaxy formation. I'm not sure that this theory is it, although I'm not particularly competent to judge. Where does the energy in the 'branes come from? Is it "'branes all the way down"?

    1) This has happened before. In Michigan, I believe. 2) I don't know about the US, but in the UK they have a thing called the Riot Act. There's a section that has to be read aloud, after which it is an offence to remain in the area. I don't know if the police in this case have similar powers. 3) These people chose to remain in an area with rioters, even after they were asked to leave, and the worst thing that is happening to them is they get their mugshots on the web. Diddums. 4) You have no expectation of privacy in a public place.
