Despite the overwhelming Msoft is evil vibe, I'm not so sure in this case.
I just got back from the Miscrosoft Vista Readiness Lab, which they setup and run for free to help ISVs port their apps to Vista. The Msoft engineers there were very helpful and seemed to be actually interested in getting 3rd part apps to work on Vista. Their statement was that it was in their best interest for everything to run seemlessly on Vista at launch time (no doubt to avoid press like this article).
I have no knowledge about this specific case, but my bet would be that Apple and Audible haven't gotten their act together on the port. Maybe there were specific changes in Vista that made it tougher for them, but they have had quite a bit of time to work on it.
Yes, I'm sure Microsoft would be highly unhappy with another 'egg' like WebSphere that generates billions in sales with profit margins in the 90% range.
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't a successful product.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say getting panned by the slashdot community is probably a good sign for an enterprise product.
Hey what's wrong with Cary? Granted housing prices are higher than Apex or Garner, but it's a great place to live. And you're paying some of the premium for a shorter commute to RTP. Mine averages about 15 minutes, unless I40 is especially slow.
Now that I think about it - everyone stay out of Cary. You newcomers are driving up my house value and thus my property tax. Go live in Garner like the man says. I'll let you know when I'm ready to sell and you can start coming then.
OK, by your logic there have been several attacks since the Patriot Act was put in place. Must not be working.
Either we need to get rid of it, or we haven't moved far enough along the line to police state.
Wonder which of those arguments you'll pick?
And as an aside, I know there are pieces of the Patriot Act that are worthwhile (eg intraagency communication improvements). I have problems with the fact that this admin took the opportunity to stick in unAmerican quasi-fascist items pretty much because they knew no one could vote against it (warrantless searches anyone?).
Then again, I oppose the war and by definition am unAmerican and support the terrorists.
Well, the best one that wasn't modded to 5 Funny:-)
Unfortunately, you do know that your well-reasoned arguments are too much for his FoxNewsified brain to absorb?
Bush-Chaney = good, liberals = evil. And the administration or Fox will be happy to tell us who the liberals are and what bad thoughts they think.
Lord I hope the Repubs nominate a traditional conservative in 08. I'd like to just dislike the policies of the govt if they win, rather than despair that they're leading us down the trail to Mordor like today.
"That being said GT is not a great tech school, although as I pointed out atlanta has a solid tech community."
What basis do you have for this statement? I'm definitely biased ('92 Ga Tech grad), but you're just insane.
Tech consistently ranks in the top 20 in the nation for technical majors. US News and World Reports recent rankings had Tech as: * No. 9 public university in the country * No. 5 graduate engineering college * No. 5 undergraduate engineering college * No. 1 industrial engineering program * 9 undergraduate engineering programs ranked in the top 10 * 7 graduate engineering programs ranked in the top 10
And for those who think there are no tech jobs in the South, I work here in Research Triangle Park in Raleigh, NC. Over 38,000 other science and engineering types work within the boundaries of RTP, and the greater Triangle area probably has several times that number of tech workers as well.
Although not as well known, Atlanta also has a thriving tech job market.

>>> I didn't RTFA, but...
You're posting on slashdot. It's redundant to say this.
Wow, maybe the best post I've read on slashdot.
