Because it was stowed away in a bag and she was unpacking it. You can see it has a clip on it but she lost it before she could clip it onto something. Call it a noob mistake.
The initial cost pays for the software development costs. The monthly fee pays for ongoing development and server/network expenses which can be considerable. That's why it's there. Some software have low enough costs that it can be sold for a low price or even for free, with the catch being the monthly fee. Others will usually heavily discount the initial purchase cost after a while when they've recouped most or all of the cost. Companies do it all different ways. Some (Anarchy Online) even dont charge monthly fees to get people into the door, but if you want the perks of the expansions, you gotta ante up.
It's a sensible thing, and frankly, the monthly fee is much cheaper than anything else you could do to entertain oneself for a whole month.
None of those are provided with the Netflix Streaming service which makes it even less pointless for people who need to use such services. I dont understand why they cant just rip the subtitles and sync em with the video. If someone wants a certain subtitling or captioning they can just tick it and it renders it on top of the video. Come on already.
Time won't slow down, and those people knew they weren't in any danger. It would have not been the same. They might have gotten scared, but I don't think that their perception would actually have changed because mentally, you know there's no immediate peril.
What I think actually happens is that the mind starts working faster. Sort of like increasing the sampling rate. But your perception of time doesn't change, so things appear to happen more slowly. But until they remove that element of safety, it won't be a reasonably valid study. At least not ethically anyway.
The reason why there are artifacts is due to a small time lapse between the different filters. The "film" is actually a thin rectangular glass slide with material on it and he used color filters to get rid of that specific color so you'd have 2 colors on one part and so on and just use a special projector to display the difference. Anyway, the reason for the artifacts is he couldnt take all the 3 necessary frames at once so he used a fairly rapid mechanism or manual movement to expose all 3 parts in sequence. Look closely at the water notice the rainbow effect, thats because water moves constantly, the guy just stood still as best as he could.
