  1. Re:Firefox 2.0.0.12 on Acid3 Test Released · · Score: 1

Interestingly, in IE6, if I click the link to go to the reference rendering, then hit the back button, the score increases to 5.

Is that a slight improvement, or damning evidence that IE6 can't even render a page the same twice?

  2. Re:Make Something Unreal on Massive Unreal 2K3 Mod Contest Launched · · Score: 1

I think you're missing the point somewhat.

Lets say I'm testing two cards of similar cost, card A and card B. On a certain benchmark card A scores 5000, card B scores 6000. So card B looks better value. But in reality, card B has detected that my benchmarking program is running and reduced its detail levels; if it hadn't it would have only scored 4000.

This doesn't make card B any better at maintaining high framerates in the latest games, it just makes it appear to be better than it actually is. I could turn the detail levels down on card A and correspondingly better framerates (score of 7000, say).

  3. Re:You think that is scary? Ha! on Telecom NZ proposes 2c/min Modem Tax · · Score: 1

In the UK, local daytime calls are 4p ($0.064 approx) a minute, 1.5p ($0.024) after 6pm and 1p ($0.016) at weekends. There's also a minimum charge of 5p ($0.08) on every call, so if your modem doesn't connect, tough luck.

Luckily I'm at university at the moment, so I'm not affected, but my last exam is on Tuesday...

My pockets feel lighter already :/
