If you are like me you have been gaming since Pong. What has always made gaming exciting and cool was that until about ten years ago there were completely new paradigms in gaming every year.
But about the last ten since the "entertainment" business got involved there has been hardly any new game styles. They reskin all your favorite game paradigms and then wonder why people won't continue to but 25 versions of first person shooters. More polygons and more elaborate visual affects, oh thrill!
They should call them movies because the game industry is acting like they can put out the same stupid action flick for years.
Us gamers are action oriented and the current gaming industry is boring, corporate and is not on the cutting edge of technology, sci-fi nor gaming.
The language is what I find scary, it all sounds as if some sort of physical theft had taken place.
Copying is not stealing, though I don't see why it should not be illegal.
How can there be finacial losses when nothing was invested?
I think it is probably a good thing.
Let them turn software into a costly totalitarian experience with your computer bugged, feds making surprise visits, and mandatory upgrades disabling your computer.
People will be pushed to Open Source solutions.
Your salary will never go up based on profits.
The only reason your salary goes up is if you are a scarce commodity, which is never going to be the case. You will only grow more common with each year.
What do people think the motivations of the Ford motor company is? I was reading ~2 months ago about a union talking about supplying thier members with computers and internet service so as to provide online union information and voting. In the hopes that they could influence more involvement and education of the workers. Maybe Ford would prefer to give them a TV, or at least a head off the unions from supplying a tool that could be used to organize workers. Yes, Yes I know that they could access a union page from the Ford computer but is it as likely when it is not thier ISPs homepage?
