Time travel in that show was just a way to have a whole new set of characters every week. Very cool actually, although the science in the show was totally pathetic.
I didn't watch it all that much, but I don't recall time travel entering as a plot element very often (except as the one thing he has to "put right").
I wonder if they could do a similar thing in the Star Trek universe, only with good science? --

What about those aliens that the Borg were afraid of? The ones who made a whole simulation of Starfleet Academy, and the leader took on the persona of the famed groundskeeper Boothby?
I stopped watching Voyager after that, but until then they seemed to have a lot of potential. --

The one name variant you didn't list on your site is the most obvious one: Free Open Interface License (FOIL).
Anyway, I don't think it's realistic to try to compel companies not to protect their IP. But wait and see: free and open alternatives are slowly winning over proprietary interfaces in
all kinds of places.
There's no need to compel businesses to stop doing something that's unprofitable.

Flamebait? I thought this one was interesting. Sheesh, some moderators need to stop injecting their own personal opinions into their work. Guys, the negative mod points are there to mark down things that are inappropriate, not just things that are controvercial. If you can't tell the difference, stop moderating.
No wonder this guy posted anonymously. It's this kind of thing that makes me glad for metamoderation. --
Patrick Doyle
I'm glad you (and the moderators) saw it that way.:-)
For the record, I do believe Van Gogh was an extraordinarily talented artist. It's too bad the poor fellow was so psychologically tortured. --
Patrick Doyle
It sounds like either Van Gogh painted some unusually detailed and accurate paintings, or people are just reading too much into what are effectively works of fiction. Well, the house with the filled-in window was pretty impressive evidence of the former, so perhaps Van Gogh was more of a photographer than an artist.
Microsoft's operating-system chief Jim Allchin says that teaching people to fish threatens the American way of life.
"Sell a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. That's the American Way. Teach a man to fish, and you undermine the entire economic system of this great nation. Education is communism, plain and simple." --

/* Increase the timeout each time we retransmit. Note that
* we do not increase the rtt estimate. rto is initialized
* from rtt, but increases here. Jacobson (SIGCOMM 88) suggests
* that doubling rto each time is the least we can get away with.
* In KA9Q, Karn uses this for the first few times, and then
* goes to quadratic. netBSD doubles, but only goes up to *64,
* and clamps at 1 to 64 sec afterwards. Note that 120 sec is
* defined in the protocol as the maximum possible RTT. I guess
* we'll have to use something other than TCP to talk to the
* University of Mars.
*
* PAWS allows us longer timeouts and large windows, so once
* implemented ftp to mars will work nicely. We will have to fix
* the 120 second clamps though!

Don't everyone panic and upgrade your ssh1 clients. This only affects the server end. If you run an ssh1 server, now you can start worrying. --

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

"Next Generation Space Telescope"? When are people going to learn how to name things?
Don't give things names based on how good they are, or how much better they are. Remember the XT computer? "eXtended Technology" my arse.

But man, I bet that thing gives us some nice pictures.

To me, this just illustrates the idiocy of the shrinkwrap (or click-through) licenses, by reductio ad absurdum.

I'm pretty sure that's a myth. It's so easy to fake that courts don't pay any attention.

Ok, you can argue that it's actually a distributed server, rather than a p2p network. Well good for you.
