I don't trust my AIM-using friends with the inside of their PCs :-) Same reason that a lot of ADSL boxes are USB-based - least hassle for the end-user, least support for the vendor. Actually, a USB ethernet/packet-filter/firewall might be neat.

Indeed - I find that I work best at times when no-one else is here. The office environment is so distracting during the day, that I get work done best before 8.30AM and when working at home. A day at home when I have a definite plan of action or spec to work to (and therefore less interaction with my cow-orkers), I get about a weeks worth of "office-time" done in one day. And I get my laundry done, and real food for lunch.

I generally work about 10am to 8pm, largely to avoid traffic (and because I'm a lazy pig in the morning) - the management here doesn't really mind what hours I work, as long as nothing catches fire, and things are pretty much on schedule.

The answer to the question though, is when linux USB works (*), and MS provide docs for writing drivers - which is to say, roughly 2 days before the sun cools. The device itself is presented (under directx anyway) as a 3-axis joystick with a zillion buttons, although some MS software sits on top of that and maps buttons to macros to work with your favourite games. It's kind of neat, but takes some getting used to.

(*)OK, sorry - 2.4 will have USB a bit more. This is one of the two things that is stopping me switching to Linux as a desktop OS - USB support for my bits (scanner, printer, wacom pad, games things) and a browser that works, doesn't eat all my RAM, and doesn't spew diagnostics all over. I've had these things for a couple of years on my current OS, and I would miss them a lot.

Same with Mario and Goldeneye for the N64 - got mine after the price-drop though. There haven't been many kick-ass games since for the N64, mind. Maybe Zelda and a few others.

Odd trivia for you - according to Game Over, Sony developed a 'Playstation' to compete with the NES/SNES a few years before the PSX. The 'X' on the CD Playstation was to indicate this fact - eXtended. So the new machine is either the PSX2 or the PS3 - like Rambo movies.
