"Dad says the whole thing stinks."

"Teacher Colombo couldn't be reached for comment, but someone answering the phone at his home described the whole thing as silly."
This is just another one of those stories to show you how sad public education is nowadays.
I wonder if things like this are covered in Bush's education reform?;)
Boss: "I would like to meet the first twoday of threemonth at twentyhour-and-a-half to go over this information again. Is everyone available at that time?"
Joe: "I'm sorry, I can't make it. My daughter plays kickball every twoday at twentyhour-and-a-half."
The 3ivx codec/player has a lot of potential, but if you look closely, there's not much going for it yet.
First of all, it requires QuickTime. Not only that, but the player really isn't anything but a quicktime plugin. That right there is enough of a problem to make me shy of it.
Ok, now. Another problem is this. The encoder isn't even released yet (that I know of??). What good is the player if there isn't an encoder. Until this is released what good does it do us except let us "ooh" and "ahh" about what it could become.
Performance: All I've heard about 3ivx is how poor the performance is, unless you've got a P-III with about an 800mhz CPU. So much for all of us who aren't making 75 grand a year and have to stick with the same computer for a little while.
Look what else is out there: Right now the standard is Divx;-). It would take some pushing around to change the standard, but I could see this happening...except that we've got MS Video 8 coming, Divx Duex, and who knows what else out there that just has a lot more potential.
My conclusion: It has potential, but it's gonna take some kicking and screaming to make everybody happy with this one...Good luck!

Saddam and Santa are close buds...and Sony doesn't believe in Santa. So in order to get enough PlayStation 2's in time for Christmas he had to pull some major strings!
"...more or less died off and perhaps shouldn't have."
I disagree. In every case what replaced the original is something that has made life easier or helped us out in some way or another above how the previous invention did:
1. Electric trolley: Sure we're facing pollution, but face it, cars are the way to commute if you aren't rich enough for your private helicopter (how many corp's have helipads for those of us who commute in the air:).
2. Pneumatic Post: Great idea at the time...but now we have radio/telephone/email/whatnot...who needs this now.
3. Amiga: A real frontier for computers, but could you play Quake on this dinosaur?
4. Ribbon Microphone: What a hassle...can you picture any rock musician wanting to lug one of these 8lb babies around? Thank goodness for the wireless mic!
5. WordStar: We now have WordPerfect, Office, emacs, vi, that are infinitely better and more feature full.
6. Edison's Wax Cylinder: I can understand how this one is unique, but lets think. People like something small. Companies like something compact that stacks/ships well. Something round and flat just seems to work better. Can you picture a pile of Mt. dew cans sitting around with all your mp3's encoded on em?
7. Slide Rule: Calculators are infinitely superior. Nuff said.
8. Reel Mower: People are lazy. Who wants to push something around when they can listen to their Rio and pretend they're on a 4-wheeler in some urban forest.
9. Automatic Watch: A nice breakthrough back then, but I'd go for a cheaper and more efficient quartz battery-powered watch any day.
10. Airship: As the article states, these are still in use in limited areas. For most of us, Delta is safer, cheaper, and just easier.
These are just my opinions from the article. Sorry to waste your reading time:P
Was anyone really expecting this not to go through? If there wasn't a chance, they wouldn't of ever tried the merger in the first place.
I like how the article says "The commission voted 5-0 to approve the deal, even though some members had earlier expressed concerns about its competitive impact on consumers"... It's a good cause for concern. *Someone* needs to keep their eyes on this for sure.
Probably the best and most natural solution is to have at least one *nix guru on staff (or at least on call). I'm sure there are tons of qualified people out there who are looking for this exact job, plus it would probably be cheaper than going to another business for support.
CNN seems surprised with 3.06M, but could this possibly be the first ever known slashdot effect on TV? Wouldn't it of been cool if it was too much for the TV networks to handle and they went out? =)
I've had my Apex 600A for a few months now, and I wouldn't exactly recommend it with a 100% guarente.
Most of the time it works fine, but it's not what I would call a *quality* DVD player.
- Sometimes on long movies the audio/video will become slightly out of sync.
- Sometimes it has trouble booting DVD's and you have to "reboot" before it will read them.
- The MP3 playing feature works fine, but shows the filenames as 8 chars (ABCDEN01 ABCDEN02 ABCDEN03 etc), which makes finding a specific song very hard.
Other than those three quirks, it's been a dandy... but I do think you could do better for your money.
I wouldn't recommend the Dulux because of all the suspicion surrounding it. Do some more research before deciding what to get;).

ERROR!
Insufficient Memory this early in the morning!
Someone needs to write an article on the effects of caffeine on memory...of course then all the charts would probably be horrible neon colors on black backgrounds!:/
Even if you aren't in to *nix enough to justify the price...there are many other uses!
1. Who needs a club when you've got this 850 page baby!
2. Forget using the phone book to "boost," this will put some real knowledge "behind" you.
3. Not up on all the tech talk? Go through the book and look up any words you don't know. Great vocabulary builder!
4. Forget bedtime stories, this book should be able to put any kid to sleep (but watch out! you might end up with another Linus on your hands!)
Doesn't Gore have a right handing out cigarettes if he wants to? After all, not only does he grow them everywhere in TN (I live in TN, I would know), he probably claims to of invented them anyway!
Note: This is meant as a stupid/funny/eyeball-rolling joke, nothing more. Don't flame me for it =P
Yea, I agree with you guys... but my point was that [imho] there's no point in voting 3rd party in this election. Unless I'm crazy this has become really just a race between Bush and Gore (as much as Nader, etc would like to be as much of a "big dawg" as they are), with the others about 500ft behind. I just feel like I would be throwing away my vote at this point...
In the future if there was a chance with a non-dem/repub party, and I felt like they were the best choice to have in office, I would definitely vote for them.
Sorry for my lack of clarity =)
As to the "puppet" prez... well I'd rather have a puppet that was making decisions that I felt like were in our country's best interest than have a bulldog who wants to do what he wants to do. I know that's a bad way of saying it but I think you get the point;)
This election has no longer become "who do you like the best" but now "who is the lesser of the evils." It's so sad that our country has come to this.
I cannot vote for Gore because he has come across as arrogant and aloof one too many times for me. The president is the top man, so he must be humble enough to listen to people's opinions. If our leader thinks his opinion is more important than the people's, we are lost. Sure, you may like what Gore has to say about a lot of things right now, but what if he suddenly changes his mind about something (it happens all too often)? Will he listen to what other people say about it?
I cannot vote for a 3rd party member because there really is no point. C'mon guys, really.
Thus, I have to vote for Bush. Not because I like him... only because he has surrounded himself with *other people* who seem to know what they are doing, and Bush seems like the kind of person who can listen to other people.
I'm not telling you who you should vote for, but please think about it. This is an extremely important election!

According to this page on weather.com, you wouldn't want to swim anyway.
Of course, I can't think of anything I'd want to do on a day with a high of -82F other than sit by a warm fire and drink hot chocolate.
I actually like this idea! It's music to my ears!
Maybe it could also detect the force in which you play for caps, bolds, etc.
So what happens when you play "Stairway to heaven?"
The link is now returning a 404. Could someone post a mirror?

Doh... I don't get it? What makes a McDonald's french fry is some fake potato slices and a TON 'o grease.
Somehow I think something was lost in the comparison
