I don't think that Gates commented the kernel but Linux as a whole system. And it is definetly no central point of control over XFree86, KDE, Gnome and glibc2.1. And certainly not on how Linux is configured. But contrary to Gates I find that this is a good thing. But that the implementors follows standards are very important. (And not make up their own, like Microsoft)
When/. has reached a critical size now. Time to cache links such as this one at/.? Of course after asking for kind permissions. Is this legally possible?
I thought of this too. Also I think there's some time before the V3 gets good X-Server support.
Problems with another V2 are that it takes one more PCI slot and if you have a slow processor, you won't get any benefits of the new card. (300 MHz PII or similar is recommended). My 200 MHz is too slow.:-(
Oh some people just see the bad signs. When 2.2.0 is released you should celebrate instead.
Have you ever released software? At some time project leaders and programmers get very frustrated when they think they are done, but yet still not there. Especially those in charge. I think that Linus has more pressure then you could imagine. It's good that Alan Cox relieves some of the pressure on Linus.
This is just one more step to World Domination Fast.;-)
My opinions of Mac users didn't raise much. Instead he should be complaining on why Apple has such crappy low-level parts. After all the applications must rely on a solid ground. Until then the Blue Screen of Death rules MacOS.
I just installed 2.2.0-Pre6 and when I booted the kernel hanged on PCI probing for hardware. I booted once more and this time it worked. The kernel I have used previously was 2.1.131 and it has never hanged that way. Anyone more who noticed this?

I knew that but I really like saying 'Blue Screen of Death'. It makes my Windows friends furious. ;)
