This isn't supposed to take 3 months like M$ sometimes seems to think it should.

The way programmers are pushed today the first x.0 is mostly more of a beta than a release.

Not a problem realy if you got more time at bugfixing but since the company that's behing them don't earn money unless it's out there we won't see a change before that changes.

There isn't any numbers on this but I know from observation that most people into linux keep old computers (sometimes collects them) for minor services like a home built firewall/router.

The point I'm trying to make is that if it was a windows world you would have _a lot more_ computers getting "recycled".
The effects could be that few would write drivers for older hardware and hence the hardware gets older faster raising cost.

Now I mostly use bash since I've grown used to it from working with linux some 5 years but still I think that zsh hold a couple of points on bash. One of the stronger points I'd say is that it's shipped in larger OS'es like Solaris and AIX and bash is a download, install, fiddle, pray that it works. Still I don't think there's any problem with the type of shell you are using but instead you tend to get a problem when you access them from other systems (microsoft and apple) with say a telnet or ssh client. You tend to ask yourself why the characterset never works, why you have to remap backspace and delete, why the colours aren't supported and worst of all. Why it changes from program to program. It's easy to use a shell, so why have a flamewar over wich is best when we can put our energy into bothering microsoft into putting a telnet client worthy of the name in the Windows OS. // yendor
