We may not be left biologically dead without our tech, but our lifestyle, our standard of living, would end. Is that no death?
You are pathetic...
Go outside tommorrow morning and look up at the sunrise, with all the heavenly light reflecting off the beautiful clouds, and just admire it, then come back here and type out that you would rather live in a world of metal and glass.
Sure, technology makes our lives wonderful, almost magical, but nature is infinitely more beautiful, and much more relaxing.
Personally, I think that -10 is too high to begin destroying people's ratings, maybe it should happen at -15 or -20.
It's not as any of them will really restrict someone who really wants to troll or flame or whatever, but I'm at -6 and I've never posted a comment that was meant to be flamebait, nor trolling, and i'm not quite sure if any were redundant or not...
But that's another thing.. I don't know how you think its fair for people to be marked down for redundancy. Lord knows that a person can't read most posts in/., and usually I don't read more than about 10-15. If there are lotsa things further down in the comments that says the same thing(which is likely when you hit about 200-300 comments) and I don't see it, I get my post moderated down and more bad karma...
And its only very rarely that any posts ever get moderated up, really...
Maybe you should implement something to lessen bad karma over time. Ya know, if the people aren't screwing up, they're evidently doing something right and deserve to get their karma up.
You obviously know nothing of evolution and all the proof for it. For instance, where exactly do vestigal organs come from, hm? Why do humans have a tailbone if they don't need one? Why ostriches have wings if they were destined to never fly?
Don't be an idiot... they got these from evolution
I'm a student in KS, so this issue is a little bit more than moral to me. I've been following it for a few months... funny, I never thought it'd matter much to anyone out of KS...
Evolution is not being eliminated from the curriculum, it is simply being not required. Most teachers in the cities will continue to teach evolution as they've always done, whereas most teachers in the country(who are usually home-schoolers btw), the massive amounts of country we have, will teach either pure creationism or a combo.
This changes absolutely nothing except it tells the nation that the reps of Kansas are idiots.
The politics of kansas are screwy... we have like 3 big cities in kansas, all the rest is mainly country, and therefore republican... always screws the cities, who are in the minority, over horribly.
I wonder what would happen if my biology started to teach __his__ view of evolution to classes... he is a very devout jew... let's see them support letting teachers teach what they wish after that...
If someone would please explain the technology(in quasi-laymen's terms) I would appreciate it much. I would really rather know how much could be monitored and how before I start ranting to other people. The Typo Daemon
(This'll never be seen, but hey, I enjoy venting.)
Times change.
Even moreso today, times change.
Pre-industrial age, times did not change quick enough to be noticed. A child in 1650 wasn't vastly different from a child in 1700.(and maybe they were different, but you all get my point i hope)
But today, times change faster than ever before. Every day new advances are made. My life is nothing like a 15 y/o's in 1950. In fact, it is vastly different.
The point is... whenever these ratings were made, they're already outdated. Its like the comp i got last year... had a 200 mHz processor. I feel pathetic now because most of the newer software I can use needs something much faster.
Teens can get porn online. You want me to give you a list of PW newsgroups? You want me to show you binary newsgroups that have all kinds of porn? And you want to know how easy it is for me to get these? I have online access, I have access to those...
And violence? I have often dreamed of ripping people's throats out with my bare hands. Does this mean I have a violence problem? Yes... but that's not the point. The point is that I can find much more violence if I want.
Teens, adolescents, whatever(all these terms are soo degrading) do not deserve these restrictions. After you become about 13, you've already seen all of the stuff that's in R movies. At 15, if you haven't seen the stuff that's in NC-17 movies, you deserve to be laughed at thoroughly.
In short, these ratings are very, very outdated. They might've been useful at their inception, but now they're outdated.
But, as has been made apparent, there is no solution except to explain these things to congressmen, to politicians, to people who are actually in power. And, due to the overwhelmingly conservative nature of politicians, especially with regards to minors, that will never change anything.
So the plight of minors who are restricted in doing things for which they are supposedly too immature for will continue, because most adults are far too protective of minors, not realizing that all of us grow up sometimes. And that age at which we all grow up is getting lower and lower everyday...
I know this is heretical and all, but I do hope they improve it. In fact, I know they will, because they are competing against ICQ, the biggest and the baddest IM'ing software out there.
But the main reason I love this thing is because you don't have to incessantly check your hotmail box to see if you have new mail. I would love to see a standard form for im'ing software, as long as icq isn't included, its just too different to work...
I think you all should stop worrying about who made this product and actually go look at it. Its decent and if it does improve then I will definitely start using it instead of AIM...
If you read the whole TOS, you'll notice that Yahoo reserves the right to delete your account at any time(exactly like all other online services) but when you add this in, it means that they can copy the contents of your site, use it as their own, and make yours disappear.
E-mail everyone you know about this problem, citing yahoo's TOS and urging them to withdraw their page and pass the message on. I know I already have...
Wow...chain mail with a purpose, who woulda thunk it?
If it does and competition infests halls of redmond, we will all benefit cuz microsoft will actually turn out revolutionary products that consumers want, instead of telling consumers what they want...
I know its not open source and some linux freaks are gonna kill me for saying this, but isn't BeOS a better choice than linux?
I mean, admittedly, no one's ever heard of Be, no one out of the techie circle, that is. And not alot of programs seem to be forthcoming for it, but...
Be has a central mind behind it whereas linux has many, many developers all going in different dirrections. And I think that Be, even tho it isn't open source, is very committed to being a cross between a bazaar and a cathedral...
Or I may just be totally wrong, I wouldn't doubt it, I don't really have the time or patience to install a new OS to try it out, I'm a soft-core computer guy.
I have seen quite a few posts on here that say that this is a question of defamation, not of free speech. That the constitution was not meant to guarantee you free speech in cases where it would infringe on anothers' rights.
In this case, I cannot understand why its constitutional for the anonymity of the poster to be revoked. I think it is more in the spirit of the constitution to have the right to say what I wish than be subjected a lawsuit when I want to say something insulting about a company or person.
So maybe we shouldn't be looking at this as an issue of anonymity is not protected, and instead as defamation laws suck.
It is a piece of programming that happens to interface correctly with SNES roms to produce an exact copy of the game. Since they programmed snes9x by themselves, in all truth it is their property and not illegal. Simply because it does the exact same thing as a console does not mean that it is illegal. Since one could make a rom from scratch, run it through this program, and have it work, that means that its only use is not for snes rom's. In other words, their ISP kicked them off for no good reason. I wonder if they have jurisdiction to do that.
You are pathetic...

I mean, besides the fact that its 9.9.99, and besides the fact that its 55 days after the peak, there's a new moon today too...

evolution == theory
theory =! extreme amounts of uncertainty
therefore,
evolution =! extreme amounts of uncertainty

But of course, they're republicans, farmers, and don't know none of these "city thoughts".
They always vote for the republican ticket, always elect the damned republicans to the state legislature.
Maybe I'll start tellin people i live in mo, i live close enough...

And it was a joke...I just think floppy whenever I see anything around 1.38 or 1.44 or somewhere there...
I could never get meg's confused with tb...I would hafta be extremely stupid.
Though that fact about the 900,000 disks was kinda cool...
Can't you get 1.44 tbytes to a floppy?
Jeez...
