You're logic implies that mandrake is worth $600,000, and you base it on the fact that other linux stocks (RHAT) are around $6. But market cap determines how much a company is worth, and using the following metrics here's how much each share of mandrake would be worth:
If Mandrake is worth 1/10 of RedHat, and offered 100,000 shares, each share would cost about $918! That would net them $90 million dollars!
How can non-profit groups write code to be run on the servers? Is there some sort of developers program?
and
Any information on when the GUI version will be ready for Linux?
What Cliff said above is not entirely correct, IEEE 1394 is NOT the generic name for Firewire. Firewire is a registered trademark of Apple Computer, and as such a royalty has to be paid to apple just to use the Firewire trademarked name. So IEEE 1394 is the real name of the standard, and Firewire is just Apple's version of it.
Thats why companies like Sony created their own name for the technology, both to avoid paying Apple and to have something more consumer friendly than IEEE 1394.
Check out these details about the memory problem from the TRGpro website, a maker of another Palm-OS PDA. They have a FAQ explaining in pretty good detail what the problem is and how they plan to go about fixing it.
Not to poke fingers, but the time on the Slashdot articles on the front page is always off by at least an hour. Often times I'll be looking at the site, and then look 10 minutes later and a new article appears with a time of 2 hours ago...
I'm not sure what the motivation is to make the time incorrect, but it's fairly annoying.
I'd love to see links to a page about this device or other similar ones that other people have made...Here's a link to Cye, a sub-$1000 robot that could carry around a wireless webcam if so desired.
I've bought both from them, but I haven't burned any yet. One of these days I'll have to download the LinuxCare nootable business card iso image and burn it to a business card!
Why isn't the RIAA suing a deeper pocketed offender like Lycos? Their mp3.lycos.com site allows you to type in the name of an artist, and then it links directly to MP3s that are of questionable legal status.
Why not go after the big guy instead of the smaller websites?
Does anyone know if Yopy will be able to synchronize with a desktop running Linux? The FAQ says it synchronizes with a desktop computer using USB or serial, but doesn't say what OS it syncs to.
It'd be fairly disappointing if the Linux-based PDA doesn't sync with Linux!
As a big Dave Matthews Band fan, I like to download live recordings from their latest concert. DMB allows the recording of their shows for personal use and trading, and nothings easier than trading MP3s. Read their taping policy for more details. Napster is perfect for this purpose, allowing the latest shows to be traded quicker than traditional means (tapes, CDR).
So, there is one of the legal uses of Napster that you were looking for.
Today is your lucky day, very nice drive, so small and portable! You didn't specify parallel port or PC Card version, but here's the instructions for the Parallel port version:
Now if they would adopt a distibuted computing model for generating weather predictions, I think lots of people would join immediately. Imagine being able to say "I want my CPU power to help calculate the weather for my hometown." That would be cool.

Any idea on the name of it so I can look at some online retailers.
Thanks!
Fryless in VA!!
Don't you mean Pepsi State :)
Pepsi actually pays PSU approx. $6 million to drink the stuff everywhere on campus, including football games, cafeterias, etc.
Two questions (well, kinda like 2 1/2):
How can non-profit groups write code to be run on the servers? Is there some sort of developers program?
and
Any information on when the GUI version will be ready for Linux?
Thanks!

According to the Parabon download page, they are currently developing versions of their software for Linux, Mac, and other unix variants.
Go here to have them notify you when the version for the platform of your choice is ready.

CDR Outlet has 25 packs of 3" CDRs on sale for $40. Check the following link .
Technically, Palm-OS will run in emulation under Windows CE. Check out http://www.conduits.com
I haven't tried it myself but it shows the hardware discrepency between Palm-based PDAs and Windows CE-based ones.
Get it right, that would be Dulles, VA, the place AOL calls home even though it doesn't officially exist.

The links listed do not even remotely lead us to the location of the beta files, which Slashdot seems to have a fetish with today (Evolution 0.0!)

Good Luck!
There's no information in the article on who "Nelson" is, the person making these claims that Windows isn't vulnerable....
His name was just pulled out of nowhere in the second paragraph!!
Slashdot is on the ball, they've even added the Transmeta logo to the story for our viewing pleasure.
