The team used a counter-rotating design. The outer wing rotates clockwise and the inner wing counter-clockwise. The outer wing which is situated above the inner wing naturally flex and hangs down. It was hanging down to the point at which each wing made contact and shattered into countless pieces rendering thousands of man hours and about $30,000 worth of materials useless.

  5. Re:Why always DC conversion? on Efficient Power Supply Contest · · Score: 1, Interesting

In case you're unaware, AC stands for alternating current whereas DC stands for direct current. Nearly everything in you own relies on DC (internally) to run. Electric companies use AC transmission because it can travel further much more efficiently than DC (less power / distance).

In the case of electronics, most IC's are designed requiring a constant flow. In an extremely abridged explaination, the transistors must remain biased or will cease to function as desired. The bias, or mode if you will, is determined by the electrical conditions (Voltage/Current) on each of the transistors terminals.

What does this have to do with Programmers being Engineers?

If we are on the topic though, would you care to explain how you see any correlation between the manner by which one is elected and his/her intentions? Undeniably your question implicitly claims that W because of the manner by which he took office makes him less likely to "be the deliverer of Democracy" than if he were to have won by a landslide.

Whether you like it or not, the fact is that the process of the post-election events entirely abided to the US Constitution. Furthermore, even after the court case it was clearly determined that Bush had received more votes in Florida. So what exactly are you trying to dispute? Have you heard of the US Constitution's guarantee of equal protection? Perhaps you should become informed before asking mindless questions.

Actually that ~35,000 was a CIA estimate of Iraqi soldier casualties, not deaths (probably 30-40% of which are deaths). As absurdly high as that may sound, it is likely quite close to the actual figure. 3ID killed 300-500 in a single ground battle, if you consider all the air strikes (over 9,000 sorties) and other divisions, you'll see that ~35,000 is a fairly accurate calculation after all.
