Too bad nobody will pay the pharmaceutical companies anything. After they collect the genetic makeup of every human being alive, health insurance companies will know when to drop clients: right before they need them.

  3. Music industry does it again * rant * on Music Industry Raids Taiwan Campuses For MP3s · · Score: 2

Ok, so you got 14 students caught with mp3s. Sure, they broke the law. But now there's a bunch of RIAA-type nazi assholes that are taking those 14 students and placing them on a pedestal. Those 14 students will probably have a hard time with their studies, having to talk to lawyers and go to court sessions and all, and if this case does start to escalate, I'm sure that they'll have to drop or postpone their studies. The music industry gets to deny these 14 students the opportunity to get a better education. The unlucky 14, at that. If I was a music artist represented by a group that goes off and persecutes small groups of people for the sake of generating fear amongst the rest of the populace who download mp3s, I think I'd leave. But appartently (aside from those bitch-ass pussies Metallica and sell-out Dr.Gay), many artist do support this kind of persecution implicitly by not speaking up and taking a stand against bullshit like this.

  4. WTF is this shit? on AI Movie Promo · · Score: 1

Pinocchio + fancy-schmancy compu-high-tech-as-misinterpreted-by-the-media? AI sounds like it's going to be a real summertime box office bomb. The only way to get me to watch it is if it had some cool fucking shit, like that little kid in the trailer turns evil all of a sudden and starts to cannibalize his family. Then he starts shooting up the town ala Matrix, dodging bullets while trippin on some mondo acid and having everything happen in slow-motion and freeze-frame.... In the end, he fights an evil digital Puff the Magic Dragon computer simulator to the bloody end and all the computers around the world start to ooze blood and pus and guts and....

  5. This shit isn't new on How to Build a Fad Website: AmIHotOrNot · · Score: 1

Why don't you look here or here or here? This isn't anything close to upping the ante... more like adding more people to the table. somethingawful and rotten both know that they generate traffic at the expense of someone else's misfortune. But so does cnn.com and abcnews.com. hotornot does not purposely try to humiliate people. when used legitmately, it provides a forum for people WHO WANT others to survey them. as for illigitmate posters, well, that will happen on any interactive system. hotornot at least takes some measure to prevent that. look at slashdot; there are plenty of bad trolls who post anti-semetic or racist jokes at the expense of those who have suffered tragedies involving antisemitism or racism. should slashdot be shut down because other people are assholes? probably not.

  6. May be a fad, but the idea behind it is important on How to Build a Fad Website: AmIHotOrNot · · Score: 1

Simple sites are: 1) easy to set up 2) easy for the users to understand ...and most importantly... 3) easy to maintain They took a simple idea and didn't go apeshit with javascript and java applets and flash and all kinds of eye-candy bullshit you see on other sites these days. Content wins. Sure, they're still headed on the way to destruction financially, but they got the right fucking idea for site development...

  7. Re:What about imagination? on Open Source, GIS and Data Visualization? · · Score: 1

We definitely need to learn to be better thinkers. A lack of imagination is always filled with a surplus of visualization. Visualization is a crutch for analytical thought. The brain atrophies and become dependant on visualization. Look at how many Americans watch TV everyday. We're bred to be mindless drones by corporate society. When was the last time you came up with a joke that wasn't off TV, or said something that wasn't based on some visual imagery you saw off a movie? The lack of abstract, original thoughts have been replaced with media imagery.

Of course, what I said above isn't original at all. Huxley, Orwell, Chomsky, adbusters.com, etc. will all regurgitate the same thing. But at least in the days before TV and computers, people had to form their own visualization of what they read in books and heard on the radio...
