  1. Err...is it me, or are the results a bit "cooked"? on OSX/Win2K Deathmatch · · Score: 1

Flame me if you must... But isn't making hardware compatibility an issue here sorta like saying that a Playstation is better because every game will run on every box? I mean come on, the Macs are all the same. Every Mac is just like every other fickin' Mac. They are clones of each other. Making an OS run on a Mac is a programmer's dream come true. You have such a limited amount of hardware that you don't have much to worry about. When you really think about it, Win2k runs is compatible with at least as much hardware if not more by sheer volume! Saying that windows is has hardware issues is just not fair. And besides, Win2k runs on EVERYTHING I've ever tried it on...even obscure stuff. So, next time someone compares OS compatibility lets try not to compare Apples to oranges? Shall we? One other point is that there is just plain MORE stuff you can use for cheaper on a PC. About 100 TIMES more hardware items and at least 1000 TIMES more software. Lets see Apple try and beat that! Oh, yeah, that's right they DID...and their Nazi-like liscensing with 3rd party developers killed that idea! Oh, Darn. I guess I'll just spend 1/3rd the money on a PC and get WAY more bang for my buck...

Personally, I think that man's technical evolution and economic goals by far outway any environmental concerns this may raise... I.E. Screw the tree-huggers... What is there to damage actually? A BUNCH OF ICE? Maybe a polar bear or two? get real... Remember, Man is an animal too...so if an animal wants to use it's environment to it's advantage, why do the environmentalists/nature freaks have such an issue?

  3. Here, Here! on Piracy vs. Privacy: MP3, Microsoft And Real People · · Score: 1

I totally agree. Very few people care that piracy is illegal. Nobody cares except the RIAA or the SPAA. Most people (end-users anyway) don't even realize that software or music piracy is illegal anyway. Even if they did, they wouldn't care 2 flips about it. Why do you think that it is so widespread? In fact even some of the people who ENFORCE the laws about it don't really care. They're just doing their job. Hell, even the FBI agents pirate software and music. I would wager a guess that even the president has at least ONE pirated software prog that he didn't pay for... In fact, I have a CD of "warez" that a good friend of mine got from his buddy who is an FBI AGENT!!! (It's true, I know them both...) Go figure. In short, nobody cares but some unhappy, prudish few...who probably try and enforce the sodomy and oral sex laws too...

  4. People just need to be happy they're getting stuff on Rivals Upset At Windows XP Features · · Score: 1

I honestly don't see the problem here people. I mean who really doesn't want to get a bunch of stuff free (more or less)with the op sys? If it has too much, trim it out during or after you install it. The only people who can't are your basic "end-user" (also the worst insult you can give someone) and they don't really matter anyway. I mean if you can manage an unistall of something then you have no place being at the keyboard...

The thing I don't think you are getting the concept on is that the chip is STILL SLOWER Mhz to Mhz than the P3 or the Athlon. Oh yeah, great I get a machine with a nify 1.4 Ghz speed but it's hardly any faster than that 1.0 Ghz machine that costs almost half the price!!! And why in hell should I have to worry about the heat in my case from a NON-OVERCLOCKED chip? Put a fan on a t-bird and go...Intel humped the bunk on this one and I think the market is shortly going to figure this out.

  8. The P4 was a bad concept to begin with... on Pentium IV study · · Score: 1

I was reading an article about the P4 just prior to it's release explaining the technology behind it. I must admit that at the time I thought to myself "That is the stupidist thing I have ever heard!" The article talked about it's branch prediction and cache issues, as well as it's staging. Appearently the p4 uses a MUCH higher (I don't have the article handy but it was like 3 or 4 TIMES the norm) staging process than anything before it. I remember asking myself how doubling the amount of work a processor has to do to get a job done is going to make it faster...I guess it doesn't! Add to that the fact that the branch prediction requires the program to be at least somewhat predictable in it's execution...most aren't (or at least most users aren't).
