"I'm sorry, Motif is *ugly*. Even more so than Qt."
While Motif ugliness cannot be proved or disproved, the second part of your comment shows that you have no idea what are you talking about.
Qt is GUI emulation toolkit and as such does not have its own look.
On Unix box it defaults to Motif look ( just like Java) and on Windows to Win32 style look.
Qt is NOT Linux oriented at all. Look at their config directory which contains dozens of different configuration files for various Unix flavors.
It is a commercial product and therefore when it claims support for a given Unix platform it really does support it ( no "I don't have IRIX so try and see if it works yourself " style so prevalent among free software.)
PS. Original Motif widget set is pathetic as compared to current Qt.

No I have not. I am quite happy with Qt.
However I did remember reading in some article about wxWindows people complaining about lack of slot/signal equivalent and how it was necessary to actually subclass button to handle its events.
Well, from business point of view GPL and FSF are clearly a joke. People willingly part with their money to obtain AOL services while FSF is forced to beg for donations.
Interestingly, while some advocates of Open Source Software claim that relative popularity of few packages like Apache and Bind is a validation of their concept they seem to forget that commercial products cost money and STILL manage to do well in the market where there are free alternatives available. That tells you something about quality of Open Source software.
That has been my problem since the very first time I used X.
It was simply much slower than Windows running on the same box.
I even went so far as to actually spend $200 on AcceleratedX which helped a lot but even with that it was not quite as responsive as Windows.
One has no choice but conclude that X is not as efficient as Win32 GDI.

I was talking about GUI EMULATION and not forcing people into using some obscure widget schemes.
Believe me, Qt emulating Windows looks and acts 99% just like original Windows app.

"Part of why wxWindows is so nice is because it uses the native widgets of the platform it runs on. "
Frankly, I think GUI emulation route taken by Trolltech is a much better approach. First of all, using native widgets ( like java infamous AWT ) forces one to adopt the lowest common denominator of available functionality. You also end up with problems related to awkward OO design (inherited classes based on existing widgets are often hard to implement etc.)
Finally, there is a performance penalty related to API layering ( Qt code on given platform occurs no such penalty because it is executed in the same level as code for native widgets.)
