  1. I'm sure it's nice but... on Ximian Gnome 1.4 released · · Score: 1

I'm still recommending KDE to my clients when they need a Linux solution. KDE has a much better synergy with regards to any value assessment I've done. While Gnome is stable like a rock and probably more "fun" than KDE, my gut tell me the latest paradigm shift is leading to customer centric initiatives and away from affinity marketing, which is more than likely a good thing.

I'm actually waiting for someone to step up to the open source plate, as it were, and show me a real forward thinking Desktop. I don't want change just for the sake of change, nor do my clients, I want a new direction, something that leads us out of the copy windows rutm not that that's totally bad, it's just tired. People will need somthing which looks beyond our limited thinking to deal with the problems that lie ahead.

If I recall correctly Captian James T. Kirk became the captian of the Enterprise because he was able to "cheat" on a test (the Kobayashi maru) that was supposed to be un-winnable. Thus because he was resourceful he was rewarded. I submit that real life is pretty much like that and when you are looking for solutions to real world problems it's quite alright to cheat if you must. I realize that the Kirk reference is pure fanatasy but the truth is we can learn quite a bit from that if we teach ourselves to think beyond what the guidlines of how we are taught to think.

I think the $5000 should have been paid, pure and simple.

Thanks for the input. I actually left my workstation to grab a can of pop and my brohter Bob (hence the third post for Bob post) thought he would prove to me that he has the smarts of a toad and play a joke on me. However it was a good reminder to lock down my workstation anytime I walk away. Please disregard that post.

Yes, I suppose they should have called it Moores speculation, which begs the question is it really a "law" or is it just something this Moore fellow noticed seemed to be the case. By that I mean is there some kind a a mathematical proof that shows this to be the case?

I've always wondered if the whole Moores law thing was more of an urban legend than a fact. If anything I believed the Intel chip making process was based upon prodding people to buy a new computer every two years, something that people have stopped doing. Luckily for me and my soon to be off the ground consulting company, the shift from hardware, chips, etc.. to professional services, consulting, ect... makes this a real non-issue. Don't buy into the hype, it's servies that make the computing experience these days, not hardware advancements

  6. It's not a relevant argument anyways on Judge Refuses to Reveal Anonymous Posters · · Score: 1

At best it's based upon a slipperly slope type argument, Our stock price went down, therefore these comments made it happen. Baseless unless you can prove it, which in this market would be very difficult since almost all stock prices have diminished greatly over the past few years. Kudos for the judge although I wonder if the claims had more substance if the judge would not have forced the issue. It's easy to back the constitution when the issues are non issues. Also, if the financial backing of a Microsoft had been behind the case, instead of a bancrupt website, you would be playing with a different set of rules.

Seems fairly typical of the US courts with their propensities for selective enforcement. Meanwhile the legislative bodies try to control the masses by developing and marketing curricula that promote sectarian beliefs, promoting censorship and limiting freedoms along the way. I wouldn't say this is too much of a victory.

  7. It's a flawed business model on Eazel On The Ropes · · Score: 2

You need to have a sufficient demand for a product by paying customers in order to make a go of it today. Eazel also might have some issues with their performance metrics if they have burned through a sizeable amount of cash already. The big money big spender attitude is hurting them. It's a plus for the marketers to have a big name behind the project, but it tends to lead towards more spending as the old school employees think that's the way a business is run. Sadly that's the odd mix we see in many flawed Linux business plans today, how do you mix the free commando attitudes with the spend big money to make big money people.

I could make 13 million last more then a few years while working on a file manager, I promise you that.

One of the major issues I've noticed while getting my business off the ground is the total lack of quality collaborative relationships which align towards common goals. I suggest the good folks at Eazal take a hard look at that.
