Have you ever played UT under Linux? If so, can I have some of that crack you were smoking at the time? UT under Linux (with my GeForce2 GTS and Radeon) is faster and much more stable than under Windows.
Besides, are you saying that more DirectX games is a *good* thing?
No. But nor do more DirectX games mean that fewer games are going to get ported to linux, which is what you originally said.
In the long run, this will make OpenGL unpopular with game developers. Sure guys like Carmack and afford to suck it in and develop to all the extensions, but for a
small development house that wants to make an impressive game, they'll go with DirectX to save themselves the development costs. And when they do, there goes the
possibility of a native Linux port.
Care to explain, then, why and how there have been a number of DirectX games already ported to OpenGL for Linux?
Who in their right mind would buy an ATI board anyways? appart from keeping the Mac platform alive for several years, have they done anything worthwhile? I thought
they just played catchup to nVidia and 3dfx
Apparently you've never seen a ATI Radeon in action... A 64 Meg DDR version will easily outperform the fastest 3dfx cards and gives the GeForce2 GTS a run for it's money.
So, if discovering this info is so important, why aren't we digging through cememeteries studying everyone that's died 300 years ago? Or 200 years ago? Or 100 years ago? Or yesterday?
It's hard to refute a statement (ie. It's impossible to favor gun regulations and oppose computer regulations and remain philosophically consistent.) when the author of that statement never supported that statement with a logical argument in the first place.
What makes both of them so different philosophically?
The question, to the author of the article, should be:
What makes both of them so similar philosophically?
I think the point cosmicaug was trying to make is, despite Timothy's false claims, this is not an Outlook virus. This virus doesn't require any particular e-mail client.
Or perhaps Judge Patel is well aware of the technical issues and has dismissed them because they're irrelevent. If someone is violating the law (and I'm making no judgement about whether or not Napster is doing this) then it's irrelevent how difficult it is for that person (or entity) to stop breaking the law. A judge can, and should, force them to stop irregardless of the technical issues involved.
I have mixed feelings about Comcast's support... On one hand, I've had four outages in excess of 24 hours over the past six months. I've had appointments for 12-4 PM that have shown up at 9 AM, and I've had appointments when no one from Comcast has shown up at all. I've also talked to a number of completely incompetent support people at Comcast.
The only saving grace is that when I filled in their on-line complaint form I got an almost immediate reply from someone much higher up in the support chain than I'd get on the phone. I've also always gotten credited for the outages that happened (as well as for being inconvenienced).
As it turns out, apparently the problems stemmed from the fact that there was some incorrect information for my account (concerning the port # my apartment was in the Comcast cable box).
As for download speeds, I have no complaints. And it was extremely easy to get running under Linux.
I never attacked you or your character, however you continually attack me. I asked a simple question. You were the one who immediately started in with the attacks in response, moron.
I know I said I was removing myself from this discussion, but I have to respond to this crap:
What I find appauling about the replies to my post is how people try to act self
rightous, telling me absolutely what is funny and what isn't. If you don't find it funny, then say _you_ don't find it funny. The fact that this post made someone,
somewhere laugh makes it funny.
To that person.
I have never, and will never, repond to someone with "Fuck you, asshole."
No, but you have no problem insulting someone by saying they have no sense of humor or nor clue because they didn't find something you said funny.
With every post you make yourself appear to be an even bigger jackass.
I'm bringing end to my participation in this discussion. If you're so stupid that you find "jokes" about death threats and physical violence humourous then I really don't want to have anything to do with you.
I'm sure all those who have a genuine use for the
service that cotse.com provide are not bothered.
I disagree. Obviously Gielda has some way of tracking down a post to the person who posted it. Someone who feels they have a perfectly legitimate complaint against the government of the US might still fear posting knowing that they can be held accountable.
ure as hell would not want to be held responsible for some of the stuff that appears at -1 in the discussions on slashdot, and they are nothing compared to some of
the advocacy flamewars available now from an NNTP server near you.
He clearly states that his purpose is to promote open discussion, and that if you try to exploit his services by making death threats and such, then you will be
held accountable.
I'm curious why you think the owner of goatse.cx is any more worthy of death threats, physical attacks, and people doing everything they can to make his life a living hell (and why you think everyone on Slashdot would agree). Please enlighten us.
Hmmm... UT, SOF, Myth2, HG2, Heroes III, Heretic 2, Rune, and SC3K all work at 24 bit for me... Apparently CivCTP, Tribes 2, and SMAC also work at 24 bit. How did this get modded up to Score 2, Interesting?

The simple fact of the matter is, though, that the illegal redistribution of software (whether Fleet Admiral Ackbar likes it or not) is quite illegal. It constitutes software piracy, and therefore software piracy exists. It's quite simple logic that Fleet Admiral Ackbar apparently can't follow.
Of course, the examples you give have little (or nothing) to do with software. Neither the wright brothers, Daniel Bernoulli, nor Nikolas Otto ever wrote a program. Anything they had done would be convered by patents, which, thankfully, expire after a relatively short period of time.
And, quite frankly, if I found a software program licensed under an agreement that I didn't like, I'd either not use the program or put up with the license. It's quite simple, in fact.
Frankly, I feel bad for you that you feel the need to steal, and then to justify your actions as anything other than theft.
When you create something (a book, a song, a program) you get to set the terms by which it can be distributed. If someone else doesn't like those terms, tough shit. They don't have to read the book, listen to the song, or use the program. They do not have the right to do what they want with your creation unless you specifically gave it to them in your license. In this case, however, you posted your message to a public forum specifically intended for the purpose of reading.

Ahhh, yes... The discovery of how this 5,300 year old corpse died is so very important.

Did Patel violate the higher court's order? We'll just have to wait and see.
Dinivin
Napster can still be used to trade music that is free.
And I don't see where Patel said anything to contradict that.
