Geeks have no conviction. In the long run/. readers are a bunch of lazy, overweight dorks happy to just sit inside enjoying their high-paying computer jobs, and go home at night to engrosse themselves in pop culture.
I notice many people complain about MS using the web browser and file browser as the same thing. But it seems everyone else is doing that too. KDE's Konqueror is a combined web/file browser. Nautilus also does this. If this is such a bad idea why is everyone doing this. The only desktop that I know of that doesn't try to do this is the Mac OS.
I know what you mean about some debian users. I mean I have seen some real assholes myself.
But another reason is ease of installation. I mean I know Red Hat and Suse are easy to install, easier then Windows 98SE. But Debian is hell to install, I mean even FreeBSD is easier to install then Debian.
I was able to install Debian because someone was willing to guide me over the install process. It took 3 nights and was done completely over IRC. So I can certainly tell you there are some really nice Debian users out there.
Well I want people to tell me "To A, push B" when I hit a roadblock so I can continue to figure out how to use my computer.
"in this new and improved model, the windshield wiper switch is now located on the second stick right of the wheel". But in the computer user world, this is exactly how it works. The end result is the perpetual myth that computers are complicated and hard to use, plus excellent job opportunities for 'teachers'.
I have never had anyone tell me where the windscreen wipers are. I usually just look for an icon showing me which handle it is on.
I remember a problem I had in Debian with xterm. I wasing in the IRC #debian channel. In the channel news item which talked about a problem in xterm, and to apply the "usual fix". I didn't know what the "usual fix" was. But I was in luck the person who wrote the news was in the channel, so I could ask him. Well getting him to tell me took about 30 minutes. He keep complaining about users not figureing things out themselves and how I should RTFM. Well he then said something about a bug report about this problem. Looking through the Debian website,I found the bug report which showed the fix. He could have typed one line to show me this fixed but no I had to go through 30 minutes of interrogation. Also he could have put a link in the new item to this bug report. But I guess he wouldn't get a chance to show what an asshole he was then.
I think there are alot of people who are refusing to buy XP because of the all the bundled stuff. If you can get a "lite" version these people are free to buy it. No need to mess with Linux. I wonder if the guys behind this are doing this because they want a "lite" version of XP.
I think all of you are overestimating how difficult it would be to "overthrow" MS Office. I mean StarOffice or OpenOffice are great because they have a price even MS can't undercut. You don't need "perfect" import/export, you need just good enough import to receive MS Office documents. Don't work well with MS Office replace it.
But I can't use StarOffice or OpenOffice, because there is no Mac version. Sun canceled their port to Mac OS X and OpenOffice doesn't have a version available for Mac OS X.
Because Microsoft does a really good job with the Mac version of Office. Also we have no choice, there are almost no other WP applications for the Mac. They are almost always Windows only or available Windows/Linux. Sun canceled it's port of StarOffice to Mac OS X
I noticed this problem to with a lot of software I buy. It seems it would reach a state of perfection, then the company making it goes backrupt. Seems open source software can get around this problem
Did Netscape ever not offer Navigator for free on the Internet. If I remember correctly you could always download Navigator for free from the Netscape web site. You were supposed to pay for it in like 3 months but no one ever did.

Hey! I am not overweight.
This gives a whole new meaning to the error message:
"Program shut down because it perform an illegal operation"
Didn't the SSSCA had a clause saying something about an anti-trust exception?
I think many Mac Users are using OmniWeb. If you look at his journal entry the number of Mac Users reading slashdot is at 0.50%
It's not free it is supposed to be part of their OS which costs money.

I am aware of this. I didn't like the Hormel SPAM icon either.
Whenever I see that icon I always think of a piggy bank so I think the topic has something to do with money.
For a topic icon for spam, can't you have a mailbox stuffed with mail?

I wanted to know if you install something using
./configure
make
make install
Is there anyway to uninstall it?
You want them to read this site?!?
You got to be kidding
What idiot would want to read this crap?

That is because in Windows I almost never need to look in a manual
You forgot Dreamweaver and MS access
It might not be too smart as much as too arrogant...
What!! a Linux user arrogant?!? No way

No us "Mac OS freaks" think running Office v.X on Mac OS X is thinking different :)

You have got to be kidding.
Debian has the worst installer of any operating system I have ever used.
Even FreeBSD has a more user-friendly installer
I found this web site which shows the bugs which are in the 2.4.x kernels.
MSDE?
What that stand for Microsoft Database Excess?
When was Debian 2.2 first released?
