Whenever I hear about cases like this I always think about how I have never seen a porn site. Yep, in my 6 years of browsing the internet I have never seen any porn sites. I guess it is because I have never looked for them.
Or could maybe porn sites don't exist at all. Maybe this is all part of a mass hysteria?
In Mozilla it has a feature when ever you do a search on google or bugzilla, the taskbar pops out showing all the titles from the results
I find this feature really annoying and it took me forever to figure out how to turn it off.
To turn it off, in preferences under Navigator choose Internet Search and uncheck the checkbox.
Does anyone like this feature? I'm afraid some people might stop using Mozilla because this is so annoying and they can't figure out how to turn it off.
Mozilla for Macintosh is getting really good. It seems faster then IE. Also it has at least some support for Inter Config. It uses the Inter Config Email client. It also seems to use the file mappings from Inter Config. It allow can login through SSL on sourceforge. IE can't do that.
I am now using Mozilla as my browser on Windows. It is much faster then IE. But, I still feel bitter about all the XUL bloat they put in it. Does Mozilla ever use XUL to render web pages?
I once read about a guy who basically got to see all these movies for free, before they are release. The reason he always like them and gives a good quote. He also works at a radio station, so it looks legit on an ad.
This kind of license combines the worst of the closed and open source worlds.
In closed source you are dependant on one source for fixes. But it might make it more difficult for crackers to find holes because they can't look through the code.
In open source crackers can look through the code for holes. But anyone can look at the code and provide a fix.
Under this license crackers can go through the code looking for holes. But you are still dependant on one source to provide a fix.
That last link I gave the Q.BATi project is trying to do that for Mac OS X.
Does anyone know if you can take the source code for gecko and put it into a shareware browser? That is what would need to happen to get an icab gecko.
Then you can at least swtich-hit and work with Linux, Mac OS X, and Mac OS 9.1
I tried to do this on an iMac with open firmware. I found it to be really difficult and finally gave up. Now I am just duel-booting Mac OS 9.1 and Mac OS X
Well I saw no evidence of that in the Macintosh. When you first double click on the Browse the Internet Icon, it asks you IE or Netscape Communicator. I think when Microsoft saw how bad Communicator was they had no need to make their browser default. If they did it might have backfired, Mac users do not like to be "forced" to use Microsoft products. So Microsoft let IE win on merit.
Don't worry I felt dirty writing that last sentence
It always seems to me that Free Software could get an edge with ease of installation.
Installing propertary software requires putting in a serial number and then install some updates.
But with Free Software I can always get the latest version, and no need for serial numbers.
But installing apps on Linux more difficult then Windows.
When I want to install something what shoud happen is
I download it tar file.
I double-click on it to uncompress it.
This shows a Gnucash folder.
It's installed!
I can go in the folder and open Gnucash.
I can then move that folder where I want it.
Why can't Linux do this?
One thing I thought is if server x can do on one machine what server y does on four machines. Doesn't server x hurt itself?
If you didn't have bureaucrats telling them when it must be released they would probably still be working on it.
Do people learn assembly to become great programmers?
Or do great programmers learn assembly?
I notice all the gaming VoIP software is PC only. But all the talk here is about Linux. Any software available for the Macintosh?

No wait need it one more time when Netscape.com dies.
Any post over 5K that uses big words = +5, insightful
Well some of us can read the big words

We have seen a 5 % drop in sales, it must be Napsters fault, so we must raise the price to compensate for the loss.
In response a hacker spokeperson said
Due to the rising cost of CDs we have to pirate more music
help customers understand when they are crossing the line . . . so they can't do the wrong thing.
So downloading a song I don't own is copyright infrigement!?!
Gee.... had no idea
I have noticed in the last few days many posts have gotten an overall funny rating. Even when it is obvious the post isn't funny.
Like the above post is rated
Insightful=3, Informative=1, Funny=1, Overrated=1, Underrated=1, Total=7
Funny is only one out of the 7 mods. It get 3 insightful mods. Yet it gets an overall funny,
It seems slashdot just gives an overall rating to the last mod a post recieved.
Guess someone figured this out and is having some fun.
How can a license "try" to "infect" things? Does it have a mind of its own?
and "Forced infectious freedom?" who is forcing you to release your code under the GPL exactly?
Nobody that is just the price for using GPL software. Anything with a price cannot be considered free.
I know what you mean.

There is actually a carbonized version of Mozilla. It is called Fizzilla
Another web browser for Mac OS X is Omniweb
There is an effort to make Mozzilla more Cocoa native here
I just realized the headline is totally wrong. Redistribution is allowed. The headline should read "Modification Not Allowed"
Because you like their product, so you hope they will continue to exist to make that product?
The article says OpenBSD uses a modified version of IPF. How long has this been true?

MP3 is not free software because it is patented.
Stallman does not like his speech broadcast in non-free software.
This is why there are no GIFs on the FSF web site.
