  1. Installing Free Software on Linux Descending into DLL Hell? · · Score: 4

It always seems to me that Free Software could get an edge with ease of installation.

Installing propertary software requires putting in a serial number and then install some updates.

But with Free Software I can always get the latest version, and no need for serial numbers.

But installing apps on Linux more difficult then Windows.

When I want to install something what shoud happen is

    I download it tar file.

I double-click on it to uncompress it.

    This shows a Gnucash folder.

    It's installed!

I can go in the folder and open Gnucash.

I can then move that folder where I want it.

    Why can't Linux do this?

Or could maybe porn sites don't exist at all. Maybe this is all part of a mass hysteria?

In Mozilla it has a feature when ever you do a search on google or bugzilla, the taskbar pops out showing all the titles from the results

I find this feature really annoying and it took me forever to figure out how to turn it off.

To turn it off, in preferences under Navigator choose Internet Search and uncheck the checkbox.

Does anyone like this feature? I'm afraid some people might stop using Mozilla because this is so annoying and they can't figure out how to turn it off.

I think when Microsoft saw how bad Communicator was they had no need to make their browser default. If they did it might have backfired, Mac users do not like to be "forced" to use Microsoft products. So Microsoft let IE win on merit.
