Agreed. But then again they never really had any respect for the customer to being with.
At least the GB/GBA/DS are hackable. I think Nintendo puts up just enough of a fight to keep the casual hacker away, but not enough to do anything else. Which is nice, and seems to work given their sales figures.
Hacking GBA is fun, just wish the tools weren't windows based:-(
No, according to the RIAA it *adds* value for the customer!!! *rolls eyes*
Is a week long enough to tell if a service will work in the long run? Imagine if we used such journalistic skills for companies like Microsoft or McDonalds...
"After a solid 7 hours of being open, it's clear, Microsoft will never make a sale."
Just because you can see the code doesn't mean you can contribute.
Not only that, but just because the code is open doesn't mean it's accessible [re: properly written/designed]. Shitty code, even though it's open, can disuade newcomers to develop.
For OSS or libre software to be truly effective it has to target key problems and stay on focus. It also has to be written/documented to encourage new developers to learn from it and add to it. I suspect on projects like the Kernel and GCC there are many "old farts" who lead most of the significant development. In 20-30 years who will replace them if nobody can learn from what they have done?
What you say? They done lie to us to drum up bidnez?
You know this, I know this, some others may know this, but the problem is people let themselves get caught up in it. Very few people really give a damn about gay rights [for example, one way or another] but they'll sure as damned have an opinion about it [usually supplied by the media or some ass on the medium],
People know the news is fake, at some level, they just *need* to believe it. So long as the bad guy is someone I don't understand, and all those "bad things" are happening elsewhere, I feel safe, warm, and fuzzy by comparison.
Do you really think the traffic is higher if you move more units of stock? What I meant is there are probably millions upon millions of people moving $200 worth of stock here and there. Versus the tens of thousands moving significant quantities.
Most mp3 players shot themselves in the foot with combination of lack lustre features and vendor lockin [at least initially]. Like the Zen Micro [5GB] was cool, but the requirement [then] to use Windows and their software was highly annoying. Most Sandisk mp3 players act like USB drives and play files off the file system, cool, but they come in sizes like 256MB, not cool.
ipod won out largely because it wasn't hard to figure out how to store files on it without itunes and they actually got some usable space to it.
Make a 10gb player, that isn't bulky, more costly than an ipod and reads music off the filesystem and you would have made a sale.
I was saying that gaming should be about fun not glitter for the last 5 or more years. The Wii is proving my bitching, and now msft is playing "me too".
6 months from now they'll claim they invented "the video game" and dismiss Wii as a "fad" while introducing their own tri-axis sensor controller as the "Xmote" or something. Just watch...
Maybe the fact that windows was not written for this should be some sort of clue as to why people object? Windows is not an RTOS nor is it designed with openess and interoperability in mind (things required for security).
Many hosting companies provide a "cheaper" hosting solution by giving you a VM instead of a physical box. Inside the VM you can do anything you want, turn on/off services, etc. Something you can't do with a chroot jail, especially when you have the possibility of conflicting with services (e.g. mysql on port what now?).
The actual databases and what not aren't always hosted in the VM. Smart providers would sell DB access to which doesn't run inside the VM. Also I should point out that most worthwhile VMs are light on the CPU when idle. So you could easily host a dozen low-volume hosts on a single box.
If you're getting the load of, say, slashdot, chances are you can also afford dedicated boxes. But for many who just want a presence on the web, it's a cheap and environmentally friendlier way to do it.
Get back to us when you have 100s of VMs to host. 100s of mini pcs or a dozen or so servers... hmm...
Sure if your goal is just to have a toy OS box, a dedicated PC is the way to go, always has been. But if you're hosting multiple VMs that's not the way to go.
First, it's just a radix sort [well that's my take]. Second there are too many google ads on that page. Third, merge sort is O(n log n) time, hard to beat for random data. Fourth, most people use variations of the QUICK SORT not merge sort.
OMG YOU CAUGHT ME, my life is a waste, oh noes. What ever will I do. Some anonymous loser coward, who trolls slashdot and doesn't even have the balls to use their name, is calling me a loser who spends too much time on/.. Oh, the irony, it has slain me so!!!
You have to keep in mind that the original market for the 64-bit AMD chips [at least] was the Opteron server market. So when they designed the Opteron they did away with segmentation in long mode, and only added support for 32-bit processes. Idea being, why would a server farm run 16-bit software anyways? For the most part it supports 16-bit mode for two reasons:
1. to boot a standard BIOS
2. for those still wanting to run a 32-bit OS (on their 64-bit processor) which at the time meant all the WinXP users.
Slashdot has less emo and vanity. Sure it's got ego, but that I can stand. Emo's piss me off because they don't know suffering, and vanity pisses me off because it's fleeting. Ego at least is humourous.
YouTube is mostly filled with shite and personal opinions the likes of which nobody gives a rats ass about (kinda like lf and myspace). Why not just moderate clips before they go public? Oh shit, cuz then you couldn't have everyone and their brother uploading clips [legit or otherwise].
Frankly, I compare YouTube to a mix of "America's Funniest Videos" and myspace. A mass conglomeration of shite I just can't fathom caring about. Combine that with the need for Flash and I have all the reason I need to avoid the site [and the like].
Agreed. But then again they never really had any respect for the customer to being with.

You realize you can get Linux for the PS3 right? So if you just wanted a Cell processor to play with you don't have to go the MSFT route.
Tom
whatever, I never played the game [too busy with frogger, damn traffic] and I don't go around the office quoting it or anything.
:-)
I'm too cool to know the quote, ya that's it.
Tom
Sent us up the bomb?
Your mother, is not a whore. Though she does do that nice thing with her tungue that I like. (thanks tshirthell.com).
Tom
shutupyourface.
... yeah really different companies there...
MPAA/RIAA/etc all the same shit. Sony BMG, Sony Pictures
I could have just said mafiaa and covered them both, but I felt like picking on the music industry for a bit.
Also, your mother is a whore.
No, according to the RIAA it *adds* value for the customer!!! *rolls eyes*

low volume means how much stock you are moving.
Do you really think the traffic is higher if you move more units of stock? What I meant is there are probably millions upon millions of people moving $200 worth of stock here and there. Versus the tens of thousands moving significant quantities.
Tom
I spend a lot more than I save :-)
The Dow may go down, but a pizza is still as tasty hehehehe.
I wonder how much of this load is due to low volume day trader movement?
Tom

"we'll remove DRM, but it'll cost you!"
I presume that cost is the royalties being paid to the artists? [sarcasm!]
I agree with the other posters, they're just setting this up for a failure so they have a "look see!" business case for DRM.
Tom

And yet you didn't choose an RTOS? Right. Ok. Gotcha.
At the very least, a DIY linux bundle would be a hell of a lot better than Windows. But even Linux isn't realtime.
Is there DRM for radar/sonar devices?
Tom
Yeah, but look at all them ads, all over the place, throughout the article, making it such a joy to read.... :-)

You can do that with computers? Honestly, how hard is it to pick your OS out of a list of download links?
/.
:-)
I don't think it's a bad idea, I just don't get why it's on
Or in the case of us gentoo folk, just build the damn program and eliminate any doubt

x86_64 processors fully support 16-bit mode out of the box. You can't execute 16-bit code [natively] from long-mode [64-bit mode] however.
When the cpu first boots though, it's running in 16-bit real mode.
