I'd have to say I agree. I mean sure the Linux desktop isn't perfect, but it already looks very good in my opinion. I think it just needs a bit more consistency in many areas. I've always had a problem with the focus behavior on pretty much every Linux desktop. I'd also like to see something like a consistent hour glass cursor so I know what in the hell is going on. And I'd still rather use any Linux desktop over Mac OS (even OS X) - and not just because of the one mouse button issue. Most of these issues just take time... and probably more time since the Linux community tends to have a hard time agreeing on certain things =) But usually in the end they evolve into pretty cool products.

Well I will admit that the major downfall of EQ is releaseing a roleplaying game to the general public - only to have it wrecked by the general populace who introduce massive farming and such. Still, as the guy above me posted, it is just bad design. Even Verant seems to know that now, and it gets to be rediculas that you have to camp things just in order to get decent items. I've heard that shadowbane is going to be much like EQ but with a better interface, and RANDOM spawning and such. It would certainly help things out.

Don't get me wrong, I used to play EQ a lot, but when you think about ATTACKING something... somehow clicking "auto-attack" once and sort of standing there seems fairly lame. Oooh, ahh, I'm a caster, I can also click some more buttons... seems like they could have come up with something better than that.

Well there is the converse of this also. Sure Word can make you productive in some respects; certainly in a work enviornment where you want to do "X" where Microsoft has a template for "X", but how many times have I seen people screw with Word for 5 to 10 minutes trying to do something where Word decides it knows what they're doing and screws everything up. I've seen it a LOT. I mean it seems fairly messed up when someone has to fight repeatedly with a word processor just to get it to do something that they want, and that you THINK would be easy to do, but they can't because the word processor thinks otherwise.

Being efficent on a word processor is one thing, but remember that there are times when the word processor itself inhibits productivity - much of the time due to its "ease of use".

I'd have to say I agree about choice, but when it comes right down to it - a lot of people DON'T have a choice. I hope I don't get marked flaimbait for saying this, but M$ really propagates on ignorance. Most people don't even KNOW they have a choice. Many more don't know where else to look. How many people can name word processors OTHER than M$ Word?

I think this sort of worries people like me. Sure Microsoft has a FEW okay (dare I say good) products, but much of it is bloated crap. And Microsoft can use its weight to force this crap on people who don't know any better and effectively force out competition. I think this is sort of the "flawed" assumption that a better product will win... which doesn't necessarily apply to computers. Sort of like how many people don't care about who makes the transmission in their car as long as it "works". And so what if you can get a better one that's free? I mean you have to look for it, and go through the hassle of installation.

I think that is why AOL is sort of worried; because AOL too goes for the less tech oriented crowd and already they're being viewed as the "other choice" since all sorts of competing software is installed with the computer. If I were AOL, I'd definitely start looking at a Linux strategy for a ways down the road in the future.

I'm sure all this has been posted over and over... oh well.
