Difficult with RedHat? Kudzu automatically scans for and configures almost all hardware at boot. Even in other distros, typing insmod bttv wasn't too difficult, and rnning xawtv with -nodga and -noxv takes care of most any problems with X video drivers.
A larger user base could end up reflecting badly on linux in that hoards of less-competent users could set up servers with such wild security idiocies as having user names and passwords the same - then blaming the o/s when they get rooted.
Perhaps there are four times as many posts about directx because the people writing using directx are not bright enough to figure out the basics on their own?
