The truth is probably closer that Apple was after Macromedia. That's where Final Cut Pro comes from. If Apple were to get an image editing application they'd have another coup for Mac OS X (Apple is replacing both Adobe and Avid on the editing front).

What made them special is that they offered the best games and were the most powerful at the time.

The Sega Master System was more powerful than the NES in every way, the PC Engine/Turbo Grafx was only beat out by the SNES in the sound category which if you added the CD blew away the SNES.

What made them special was they had developer lock-in. You had to have your cartridges made by Nintendo which meant you had to be an approved developer. Codemasters and Tengen (Atari) brought lawsuits against Nintendo and won.

The main reason to own a Nintendo console is because it plays Nintendo's games. Nintendo could come out with a game system tomorrow and announce it will only ever play games Nintendo makes for it and it would still sell like mad. The only game character to come close to overthrowing Mario's dominance as an icon for the entire video game industry was Sonic, and look at him now. A pathetic throwaway by a company that is tanking.

I'd like to point out that Nintendo has created R.O.B., the PowerPad, the PowerGlove, SuperScope 6, an interface with a portable game system, a device capable of expanding a game with add-on software with a disk drive for NES, the N64, as well as the eReader.

The moment you show interest, there will be a bunch of people (about 5% as far as I can tell) who feel that it is their god-given right to demand that everything works exactly the way they want it to. And instead of just going away, they do things like organize a boycott, and post hundreds of messages in the bulletin board complaining about the perceived problems.

5% organise a boycott of a free product and this bothers you. I fail to believe that your product is "free". Just so you know, television is not free just because you don't have to pay to have it beamed into your home.

Your "application" didn't live up to however you were hyping it and people decided to boycott so you couldn't get the ad revenue. It was all about the ad revenue, huh? Yeah, that sucks when sponsors pull their ads because you pissed off the audience. If your product truly was "free" it wouldn't make a difference if people boycotted it or not.

I look for GraphicConvertor to add CoreImage to the next version and really put a hurt on Photoshop Elements.
