  1. Linux user, except for work. on Ask Slashdot: Which Web Authoring Tool is the Best? · · Score: 1

I am a linux user, and have been for very long time, but I still use window at work. I have no choice! When I bring my work home, I almost always work in windows, too. But that doesn't mean Im not a Linux user. I'll bet a lot of people who read from work are in the same boat, also.

  2. Great textbook on SQL Book Recommendations? · · Score: 1

Check out the Second Edition of "Database Systems, A Practical Approach toDesign, Implementation, and Management" by Thomas Connolly and Carolyn Begg. It's and excellent book, but it's not a "how to do SQL in 30 seconds" kind of book. It's a solid 3-inch think text book. It covers everything in a lot of detail, with a good amount of background info to help everything soak in. One of the best database beeks I've ever seen. It's by Addison-Wesly, an excellent publishing company. Their books are excellent.

Also check out "Understanding SQL: a complete guide" By Melton and Simon. It's a great guide to the SQL-92 standard, but with a much better explanation.

$#1t! I ust d/l'd source for 2.2.5 and was just going to compile it! You know, It is the best quality of linux, from a non-technical standpoint, that Linux is a "living" operating system. That living "quality" is what attracted me to linux several years ago, and what keeps me certain that Linux is the o/s of the future.

But sometimes it is frustrating. . . just when you think things will stand still for a couple of days. . . not that I'm complaining. ;-)

  6. Lots of strange repercussions. . . on SEC: Personal Information has Intrisnic Value · · Score: 1

So can I now get something back from spammers who take my personal info from newsgroups? After all, they are taking my personal info, which has value, without me being compensated.

I wonder how this will affect various mailing lists, etc. . . that use my "personal info". Will they be subject to fees or taxes? Like the NY Times site, if they are taxed per person logging in, they might start charging for access.

  7. Oh, The Irony! on MS Employees making Fake posts in Forums? · · Score: 1

"It is against Microsoft policy for any employee to misrepresent him or herself by email or any other means."

Am I the only one who finds this highly ironic, considering they were recently busted for a fake grass-roots campaign in support of microsoft. It's almost the exact same thing, except MS isn't paying any high-priced advertising firm to do it. According to their policies it seems individuals aren't supposed to lie or misrepresent themselves, but the company itself can.
