It seems to me like the main reason for BSD advocates to dislike the GPL is that it essentially says "We're writing free software, but your software is too free, so you can't use our code. But we'll take plenty of your code."

Well, since the BSD-license explisitly allows that, I fail to see the problem. I don't hear BSD-folks whining when MS uses their code in Windows. BSD-folks wrote and chose the license they are using, they shouldn't complain if someone uses their code while agreeing with the license.

The GPL is supposed to keep proprietary software from taking from free software and not giving back their work, but the GPL doesn't allow work under it to be given back to the non-GPL open source community.

Allowing that would pose significant risks. Assume for a moment that people and companies could freely re-license GPL'ed code under some other free license. What would there be to stop Microsoft (for example) from taking GPL'ed code, re-licesing it under a BSD-license, and then freely taking that (now BSD'ed) code and using it in their proprietary software (GPL forbids that, but BSD allows it)? Answer: nothing.

x86 has been dumped where it matters. Only 8 GP-registers? No worroes, x86-64 (aka AMD64) doubles that figure to 16, eliminating one of the biggest gripes in x86! Confusing FPU (x87)? No worries, in current chips FPU is mostly handled by SSE!

Because they are one of TT shareholders (although minority shareholders).

Not to my knowledge. What makes you think they owe them money?

Does SCO have the right to buy Trolltech later?

Again: what makes you think that? Why would SCO have the right to buy TT, and not Borland for example? You are not making any sense.

Does the money they take from SCO/Canopy give SCO/Canopy certain rights? Like the right to a seat on the board of directors?

They don't take any money from SCO/Canopy. SCO/Canopy/Caldera invested in TT years ago, that was when they got money from them. What did SCO get in return? A bit over 5% of TT shares. And those shares give them the seat at the board of directors. But that does NOT in any shape or form mean that they are controlled by SCO! Hell, about 94% of TT is NOT owned by SCO/Canopy, but yet, according to your logic, TT is somehow magically controlled by a company that owns a bit over 5% of the company. TT employees (who own over half of the company) are not in fact control. Also, companies like Orkla and Borland are just puppets of SCO!

I believe Fiat Panda is in the sub-compact category (that has such vars like Citroen C2, Renault Twingo, Volkswagen Lupo and the like). While those cars sell OK they are nowhere near the majority! FWIW, best-selling car in Finland is either Toyota Corolla or Toyota Avensis (they are the top two, but ranking between the two changes). Corolla is a family-car (same size as Ford Focus, VW Golf, Chrysler Neon and the like), whereas Avensis is one step bigger (same size as VW Passat, Ford Mondeo, Opel Vectra etc.).

Well, maybe all americans are 2.5 meters tall and weight over 200kg, so for them it might be "tiny"....
