  1. WinXP is just Windows 2000 SE! on World's First XP System Sold · · Score: 1

Yeah, so it begins alright... another rehashed OS with a huge hype machine behind it. WinXP is the equivalent of Windows 98 SE. Nothing really new here, just a bunch of integrated utilities and a revamped configuration system.

  2. Re:How many people here actually have a P4? on Double-Whammy Look At The Pentium 4 · · Score: 1

I don't think anyone has said that the P4 isn't fast necessarily... but i've heard many complaints about the price/performance ratio, which is much worse than an equivalent Athlon platform.

I've never had any complaints about the speed or the price of an Athlon system. I've heard complaints about the stability, but it's hard to take many of those complaints seriously when there are so many people out there who don't know how to build an Athlon system properly (using crappy power supplies, cheap RAM, etc.)

I've built and used many Athlon platforms. They are as stable as you could hope for on any of the popular platforms (Windows 95/98/ME, Windows 2000, Linux) ... hell, a friend of mines main server for his company network is an Athlon and it's worked out fine.. no problems with stability at all.

Sorry, but I have seen no evidence of what you claim is a "choke point in performance and reliability" ever ... so long as the person who built the system knows what he's doing.

That's a bunch of crap. I don't get nearly as many disconnects as before. Hasn't improved, my ass. There are still problems, and the game is still in a beta state as far as i'm concerned (framerate, some lag and zoning bugs are chief, I think) but there is no question that the games stability has improved immensely. -- Jim

Who needs the warez groups? Funcom has already said they don't mind at all if they distribute the CD images, electronically or otherwise. THere are lots of people who are willing to burn the Cd and send it through the mail to people who have slow connections too.

Here's an even better idea... paraphrased from George Carlin.

Get all these 'Alpha male' types ... you know, guys with the broken chain tatoos on their arms and 'No Fear' stickers on the back of their new pickup trucks? The kind that think Football is the highest of culture? Take all of those 'tough' alpha male scumbags, throw them into a giant room and give them weapons. Let them kill each other, and whoever is the last man standing wins. Afterwards, blow the winners head off with a shotgun ... then show it all live on TV!

anyway - Galaxies looks like ti will actually be really good - as long as they allow for well done PVP combat. The reason is that people are so much more fun to fight than npc monsters. everquest was just a spawn-kill-wait-spawn-kill-wait game. LAME.

Imagine when they have a sizable force of imperial supporters, and a large rebel alliance force going head to head in space dogfight. BAD ASS.

    Yeah, right.

It's more like some poor newbie getting mobbed by a PK guild of 10 Starfighters (or Tie Fighters, depending on what is most 'uber' at the time)

Yes, I have a dim view of most PK's.

Its the network protocol thats broken, the game thats broken, not the video hardware or drivers here. What do video drivers have to do with the network protocol? Having perfectly reasonable features removed from hardware by the manafacturer to "protect" inhgerently broken software from cheaters is absolutly silly. How does removing the cheats from the video driver affect the hardware at all? Also, i'd love to know how the games that these cheats affect are 'broken.' Is it because they have 3D graphics? Is it because they use Direct 3D and OpenGL so the texturing and shading can be removed? Maybe the developers of these games can 'fix' this by doing away with the 3d environments and models and replace them with sprites instead! I hate to be abrasive about this but, its fucking silly. This is a moronic issue. The idiots have won! That pisses me off. A completely useless victory! Yeah! What do you care? It's just a game, get over it. Really, you should listen to yourself. Maybe you should calm down and think this through rationally before having a knee-jerk reaction and posting something that actually makes you look like the idiot.
