I know at least AT&T Wireless takes them in and donates them to various Domestic Abuse-type organizations. Since any phone can dial 911 even without paid service, they make great little emergency devices for those that can't afford their own cell phones. I would certainly consider that to be a form of "recycling".

This story in the paper is nothing but a troll. This particular posting is nothing but a giant, smelly TROLL. AAAAHHH! RUN! the last thing we need around here is MORE F*CKING TROLLS. Please stop before you start yet another goddamned argument about how much freedom we must trade for security. Sheesh. We've has this same discussion over and over and over again since the 11th of September last year. We don't agree. Get over it. You will not convince me that you are right because you just aren't that smart OR persuasive . I will certainly not convince you that I am right, because I'm not any smarter or persuasive than you are. So, let's agree to SHUT THE F*CK UP for once in our miserable lives about this particular topic and go get a beer and shoot some pool or something. Because this argument is COMPLETELY F*CKING POINTLESS!!!!!!!!!!!
The Sacramento Bee (an extremely lame newspaper to begin with, imho) is notorious for running crap like this to stir up the readers.
Look, it even got *me* to post, and I never post anything anymore! Check my sig for thoughts on people who post here.
Managed to sneak a pretty good troll in, didn't you?
Grow up. Now there's going to be two people on my 'ignore' list. Katz is the other one. Nice to know you've been lumped in with that moron, eh? What's next, movie reviews?
a couple of years ago, I was working a job that required a 2 1/2 hour commute twice a day. We commuted by van, leaving at 4:10 AM to get there by 6:45 AM, and then departed at 3:15 PM to get home by 6 PM. I had a part-time job as a bartender, and I worked at that job from 7 PM to about 2:30 am. The only time I ever got any sleep was while I was riding in the van to and from work. Plus, there were many times I can emember where I wasn't able to sleep, either from conversation, caffiene or other chemicals, so I know there were plenty of days when I got by with only 2 hours! Age had nothing to do with it, either, since I was already over 30! And, yes, it was worth it.
Yup, that's a great system, too! I've bought at least 40-50 brand-new paperbacks for.50-$1 each from the local flea market (Sports Arena in San Diego). Gee, they all looked brand new and were only missing the front cover...
"asthetic deterrance"? Sure, to some people. But to me, they're still perfectly readable. I don't keep them, and I save anywhere from $3-$6 per book. Plus, the original dealer gets credit back for not selling them!
It used to be that I'd buy a book because it won the Hugo (or Nebula) award. Sadly, that will longer be the case starting now. I guess they have decided that it's more profitable to sell the award to the highest bidder than to choose well written or thought provoking material as they always have in the past.
And, yes, I have read them. They do not deserve an award in my opinion, and certainly not a Hugo for christ's sake!
What, do the stupid fscking moderators need to be hit upside the head to realize this is a large and hideous *troll*, or even (gasp!) *flamebait*? And, not even a very clever one at that considering the context it's in? What's wrong with you people?
Note to moderators: Wake the fuck up!
Of course, you'll mod this down to -1 in about a nanosecond or two, so why do I bother?
This really is no bullshit, but I don't even get a cubicle to myself for christ's sake, and you're complaining about only having 10' by 10'? Get this: I have about 4 feet of table space. (16' table x 4 workstations.) And, the table is only 28 inches wide! (Imagine keyboard directly in front of standard 17" monitor. That's the table width.) AND NOT ONLY THAT, but our workstations must remain ON TOP of the table, thus reducing the amount of room we have even more! The only perk that I have is that the white board is directly over my workstation, so I get the benefit of writing subversive grafitti and personal notes to myself on the white board. Whoopee!
I would gladly commit unnatural acts to get 100 sq. ft. to myself. Sheesh!
I have spent some time on an Aircraft Carrier, and twice have been through the middle of a hurricane on them (Picture 200+ foot waves, 80-100 mph winds, etc.) It was no sweat. A little 'bumping and grinding', but nothing we couldn't handle. I would venture to say that since it's construction will be similar to modern Carriers, that hurricanes will not be much of a problem.
I, for one, would be happy to donate some money to the one government agency that's sort of interesting. Just watching Neil Armstrong step off the lander live on TV makes anything they do worthwhile in my book.
OTOH IMHO, I would gladly pay a couple extra dollars in taxes to keep them going, too!
But, that's just me. I know most of you will probably gag on either of these idea's.
That's what my S.O. and I are doing. We're going to liquidate everything (cars, furniture, toys, everything except our long-term investments), trade the house for a small condo (to use as a home base), and head off to actually see the world. Starting with Paris in the springtime, naturally. We're going to go *everywhere* that we've ever wanted to go, but couldn't because of Time, Job, Etc.

Rest in peace. You deserve it.

The place that I work at already banned them several months ago when they only were available in B/W!!
