I'm a Comcast cable modem subscriber. After I noticed that my outgoing mail to an AOL friend was getting the 500 bounce from the AOL servers, I just reconfigured sendmail to use the Comcast SMTP relay as a SMART_HOST. The complete configuration line is:
define(`SMART_HOST', `smtp.comcast.net')dnl
right down at the end of sendmail.mc. It works just fine. I guess the bottom line here is that all you have to do is make sure your outgoing mail is relayed through an "approved" server and the AOL dragons will be appeased.
This was to be the successor to both COBOL and FORTRAN. I learned it on the Honeywell Multics system in the late 70's, but there was another implementation on IBM systems. In fact, I still have my textbook (Conway et. al.). Is this still in use anywhere, or has it been supplanted by ADA?
I have lower back problems, and I'm a contractor, which means if I don't work, I don't eat. With "normal" office chairs I used to have at least 1 or 2 episodes/year of pain so bad I couldn't work for a couple of days. Since I bought my Aeron 3 years ago I have not had a single episode. True, they are the current trendy status symbol, but they work, and AFAIC they're worth it.
Hermann Miller Aeron chairs, to be exact. I used to have back problems so severe that I would be bedridden for 2-3 days at least once a year. Three years ago I switched over to Aeron chairs, and I have not had a single back incident since then. Yes, they're expensive, but they are most definitely worth it. Buy your own, if necessary (whoever mentioned getting one cheap from a failed dotcom startup was spot on)and use it religiously.
