I know it _can_ be disabled, but there are ways around this. A group in Germany proved it. Thats why I said 'even if it could be disabled'.

With something like this being looked @ by the EU, you can bet a certain company w/ a 3 letter abbreviation is all smiles. Even if it doesn't pass, the negative press for Intel will still be welcomed.

I never liked the PIII I.D. scheme anyways. Even if it could be disabled, the fact that it exists @ all irks me...

Win98 is simply not very reliable.

I disagree. While I'm not one to normally shout & rave about an M$ product, I must say: it's all how you configure it. On my win98 box now, I've done a few things that increase stability by leaps & bounds.

1st, I removed IE by using 98lite(98lite.net). This solved a TON of problems.

Then I replaced explorer.exe w/ Litestep as the shell. Granted, this machine will never have an uptime of a linux box(49days is the cut-off, bleh! :P) My longest uptime is 21 days. I run INTENSIVE apps. photoshop/premiere/dreamweaver/netscape all @ the same time. This shows that the OS can really take a beating & keep on goin.

I doubt grandpa will do nearly as much as I do on his machine, but I think windows will work well for him. Plus, what if he joins a senior citizen net group? Odds are they're using some flavor of windows. he'd feel left out. There are a lot of seniors who are on the net, & if they wanna exchange files, etc. He'd be left out due to the fact that he's using something that would clearly be among the minority in this group.

  9. Re:I want software that doesn't suck! on Mozilla M10 Released To The World · · Score: 2

Personally I detest IE. I'll never use it on any machines I have. I even removed it from win98 w/ 98lite. Machine never crashes. Thats amazing for a windows machine ;) I've had uptimes of 4 weeks. But seriously, I've had nothing but an extremely bad experience w/ any version of IE, on any machine. Everyone always talks about Netscape crashing, or ghosting, etc. When? Maybe I'm just lucky... I'm a die-hard Netscape user...when the company was assimilated by AOL, I felt something good had died...Mozilla.org is my last hope. I don't believe the Netscape Node of AOL can put out anything as good as Mozilla.org could if given enough time.

They keep adding on extra Sh!t I don't want. That shopping button in the latest release, wtf? I can find a site to buy stuff from very well myself... I'm still using 4.5, & even keep my 2.x & 3.x versions on here for nostaglia. If Mozilla.org can't deliver within the next year+, i'll prolly use 4.5 for as long as it can work for all the sites I visit...but I might end up switching to Opera, even tho the design/interface/everything of that browser just makes me sick...we'll see what happens w/ the Beta release of Mozilla...
